Guide School Failure
So I went to guide school and I failed. Like, majorly. I just couldn't grasp how the raft moved, absolutely freaked out doing a flip drill and didn't know how to be confident in my strokes in time. I got so overwhelmed by all the info I couldn't focus on the lines, strokes or anything.
They're letting me stay in a warehouse role/gear boat operator occasionally, but I'm just so frustrated.
The way people talk about guides/guiding is that any idiot can do it and your soft skills (which I do have) are what really matter. I guess I'm just frustrated. I get it, it's a hobby, it's not something anyone does forever, but...I just really thought I would be able to push through and do it. Several of the people who didn't even show up for all of training were hired as guides and I stayed the entire time and just could not get it in time.
Usually I'm a very confident person with a lot of charisma and I pick up stuff quickly. I'm athletic, do great in an IK and I truly do love the river and it's community so so much. But I've just really hit a wall and I'm not sure what to do to improve.
