Amazon delivery guy tricked me out of Rs 1,020 during a phone exchange. Need advice!
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a scam that just happened to me during an Amazon phone exchange to see if anyone has faced this, and to warn others.
I ordered a new phone on Amazon, and my old phone's exchange value was confirmed at 15,500.
When the delivery guy arrived, he ran the assessment and showed me a QR code, claiming the value was reduced by 1,020 due to scratches and dents. He asked me to pay the balance amount.
Here is the shady part: he asked for the payment on his personal UPI QR. When I objected, he said it was standard process because he is a 3rd-party vendor. I trusted him, made the payment, and gave him the delivery OTP. Instead of entering the OTP into his app, he just took a screenshot of it and left.
He didn't mark the delivery as complete until 2 hours later. I got suspicious and rechecked the assessment QR link. It clearly showed that the system had actually approved the full promised value of 15,500. The guy totally pocketed the 1,020 difference.
Has anyone successfully gotten their money back from Amazon in a situation like this, especially since the payment was made to a personal UPI? What should my next steps be?
TL;DR: Delivery guy lied about my phone's exchange value dropping by 1,020, made me pay the difference to his personal UPI, and pocketed the cash. System actually approved the full value.
