Picked it up from Craigslist for $35.

Soap and water, then brushed off big rust, the hit the whole thing with an SOS pad. Lubed it up and it’s perfect.

Just cleaned the throttle body

2020 Frontier 3.8L 70k miles

This was surprisingly easy and got rid of a bit of hesitation when stepping on the gas.

I didn’t remove it fully because I didn’t want the coolant lines to spill. I just removed the air intake, unhooked the negative terminal and got in there.

You can push on the bottom of the butterfly valve and it will move slowly. I chose to do that and just reach up into the top and bottom and get what I could on the back of it. It wasn’t perfect but it definitely removed a lot of buildup.

The photo is from my first wipe and the rag was very dirty by the end.

I looked everywhere for basic info and couldn’t find anyone who had done this on this engine. There are a lot of people saying you can’t push on the butterfly valve and other things but I’m just saying this worked and posting it here in case you guys were wondering.

It was very similar to cleaning the buildup off of a firearm.

If you’re ever wondering why your truck doesn’t have as much pep as it did in its younger days, give this a shot.
