People leaving fishing line with hook attached.

My husband and I live near a shared apartment pond. Rules in our lease state you can fish, but you must release. Not many people follow that, but those same people are leaving their lines behind. We have taken our dogs out multiple times and husband, myself, or dogs got tangled on a line.

  1. Us humans can feel it and remove it before it becomes an issue

  2. Add dog that wants to run around like crazy or a child who doesn't know better.

  3. Wild animals apparently don't matter

We got lucky every time. I've felt fishing line brush against me and my husband and I pull at it until we get out all up. Daytime and nighttime. However, tonight, it was wrapped around my dog's legs and body when she only walked around a 5ft radius of me. I kept her leash tight near me and asked my husband, while he was unwinding it, to let me know if I needed to move her in any other way. Even with flashlights..... fishing line is not easy to spot right away. If she took off before I felt the line...... she would have cuts all over her back legs. The hook could have gone who knows where.

Complaining does nothing, we don't have proof of who is doing this. Laws makers don't care even if it's a law not to leave fishing supplies behind. I'm about ready to become the "stay off my lawn" person
