What kinds of accommodations do you receive at work? How do they help?
My psychiatrist said it probably not worth seeking an official diagnosis at my age—something many of us have heard. In the US we’re also balancing risks and costs.
But level one is still “needs support” and I can certainly attest that in my day to day life I *need support.* I live alone and appear successful in my career, but I do face the same challenges at every job that put a lot of strain on my relationships with some managers.
Doctors frequently disbelieve me and mistreat me, to an extent that is too frequent to be a blip and it’s become a major detriment to my health.
Most people think I am autistic and treat me as such. I worry that it may lead to discrimination, if it has not already, as people try to *anticipate* my needs, since clear accommodation requests have not been stated. I wonder if a documented paper trail would offer protection at work.
Being asked to go without a diagnosis kind of seems like BS.
