Potential higher SUV taxes?

Just want to get people's opinions of potential higher SUV Taxes? I'm on the fence of thinking of getting myself an SUV (something like a Dacia Duster, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV 4 or Skoda Karoq etc.) But one of the reasons I've stayed away is I seem to always see article's and people online saying SUVs should have way higher Taxes due to their size and emissions compared to other class of cars like Saloons and hatchback. So I'm wondering how likely could these Taxes come to fruition in the future?

Before anyone starts I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with these articles I'm merely asking people thoughts on future SUV Taxes may look like? I'm honestly not mad about SUVs myself however, my girlfriend is pregnant, we have a little dog who I wouldn't trust near the baby but needs to be transported as well so i need some space between the two of them and she also suffers from major back problems, hips etc. I have a 2010 Hyundai i30 which she says is very uncomfortable however, the odd time I pick her up in my work van she says its so much more comfortable on her back compared to my car. So my theory is an SUV might sort out all my "problems" but I'd be fairly sick if I get an SUV then next the Taxes sky rocket on them. We also live rural enough traverse to a big enough town so not like I'd be in a big SUV in the center of a congested city.

Thanks.
