Chieftain Mk.6 Rant/Vent

Chieftain Mk.6 Rant/Vent

I bought the tank ages ago, but only just before the MASSIVE nerf Wargaming slapped on it. I got a taste of what it was like to play and by the gods it's been horrible ever since.

What used to be a tank with great mobility, decent armour, great accuracy, decent penetration (and APCR premium ammo) and an all-round solid tank became one of the least fun tanks to play in my garage. Like I understand it needed a nerf but DAMN have they taken away so much.

The worst part of all is that it has the most sensitive ammo rack I've experienced in any tank I've ever played. Even if you opt to get the equipment that cuts down the chances by 25%, it still gets ammo rack damage at least half the time I'm playing the damn tank. One in five games (Burning Games from recent matches) I die by ammo rack. I'm not playing the tank any more aggressively or passively than I do with my other tanks.

I own the Leopard too and yet what should be an armourless medium that's infamous for being ammo racked gets it's ammo racked damaged rarely, if ever. Granted I've played it in a support role and more gingerly, but the Chieftain CANNOT be played like that. It lacks the penetration, accuracy and mobility for it.

I still play the Chieftain but only because I have a fondness for it. But who knows? Maybe I'm playing like an idiot. I'd appreciate any tips if that's the case; or your own experience with the tank, if it's not.

EDIT: I've been informed that Burning Games and other fun modes increase the chances for ammo rack damage, which is news to me since I didn't realise that.

That aside, I've also been told that the Mk.6 had been buffed since I last played (probably August of last year), which I hadn't realised either.

I understand that's probably why most comments are a bit surprised at my lack of knowledge about all of this, but know you know why this rant is the way it is.

On the Subject of Firing HE Being at Huge Risk for Non-Pens

Admittedly all these shots are basically textbook examples of when to use HE, but HE is a situational ammo type to begin with. Just gotta know when to use it.

The first shot into the Grille did get negated by Spall Liner(SL), but it's still a high(er) roll I'd get with AP (assuming 420 low roll). Plus it doesn't hurt to check if the player IS using SL. Once I knew, I switched back to the AP since I didn't have a clear shot at him anyway.

Last shot is another great example of the use of HE.

All in one game.
