Need tips/rescue for my marathon in three days

I had foot pain at the start of my training in January, diagnosed as a Morton's neuroma shortly after. It was terrible then - sharp pain, limping on long runs. I sized up on my shoes, started running in the Saucony Azuras, and have not had pain since.

Until last week when I took my new carbon-plated shoes on a test run. It did not go well. My neuroma has been hurting since then, even in my old trainers. It's not like 10/10 pain, more like 3/10, but I have no idea how it is going to feel at mile 20.

I have brand new Azuras, but it hurts in those, too. My old ones have 600 miles on them. Should I try metatarsal pads? Does Voltaren gel actually work?

I am open to ideas - thank you.

Best race shoe for metatarsal problems

My first marathon is in a couple weeks, and I was hoping to run in a carbon-plated shoe to get some extra speed (goal is 3:30). For me, a minute or two would make a huge difference since 3:35 is the BQ standard for my age group (43F).

I have a Morton’s neuroma that was really painful back in January, but it completely went away in my Saucony Azuras for the last three months. I attribute this to the shoe but also sizing up a half-size. I do feel like the Azura has a wider toe box than a lot of other shoes.

I tried the Saucony Pro for my long run today, and my foot was really hurting by mile 9. Should I try the Speeds? A totally different brand/shoe? Or just stick with my Azuras which have about 400 miles on them at this point? I have a very neutral stride and no other issues.

I have a new pair of Speeds but actually never got around to trying them because I was doing so well with the Azuras.

Not looking for medical advice, just a possible option for a race day shoe. Appreciate any insight.

BQ strategy for first marathon

The BQ standard for my age group (43F) is 3:35, which means I probably have to run 3:28 to make it. I feel like this is a stretch for me. My marathon is in two weeks.

This was my last long run this week. I’ve been averaging 40-50 mpw since January except for a bad flu in March/April when my mileage dropped to 30 for a couple weeks. I ran a HM in 1:35 in early March on a hilly course. My max HR is 205.

I’ve been an athlete all my life but never at the collegiate level. I swim four miles a week at high intensity and have kept that up during marathon training. I run 6 times a week and prior to that averaged about 4 times a week for the last twenty years.

Should I try for a 3:25? Run with the 3:30 pacer and speed up? Is it important to run with a pacer for my first marathon? They have a 3:25 pacer too. The course is flat. I’m doing well with fueling and nutrition.

I don’t know if I should give this a full send or just try for a BQ in the fall, though that would push me to the 2028 race if I qualified (the standard for me after September is 3:45 since I will age up).
