Costume Note

Sorry if this has been pointed out before!

I’m rewatching season 4 and if I remember correctly in the show Benedict realises Sophie and the lady in silver are the same when he finds her necklace (different to in the book where he sees her blindfolded).

So the necklace is what reveals Sophie to be the lady in silver, and it’s played with accordingly throughout the show.

At first she wears high necklines completely covering the necklace from view. At My Cottage it’s momentarily revealed, and she says she “isn’t used to low necklines,” before shutting the necklace away in a drawer (she was almost revealed there, we the audience maybe thought she would be, but she shut it away).

I’m on episode 4 now, and at Bridgerton house Sophie wears a high, sheer neckline. The necklace is entirely revealed, while still ‘covered’.

I think this is a really clever way to show Sophie is getting closer to being revealed (and also right under Benedict’s nose while he searches 😂)

What do you all think? Intentional costume design, or coincidence?

I’m going to be watching the necklace very carefully over the next episodes.

Now if I could only figure out the intention behind Benedict’s fuckboy bracelet.
