r/Benophie

Which couples in other period dramas/historical fiction remind you of Benophie?

  1. Ross Poldark and Demelza Carne from Poldark.

  2. James Bellamy and Sarah Moffat from Upstairs, Downstairs (1971).(Even though it was more of a lust thing and he ended up abandoning her after she became pregnant).

  3. James Bellamy and Hazel Forrest from Upstairs, Downstairs (1971). (Even though she wasn't a maid, she worked as his father's secretary. They later marry and their marriage turned out to be quite the unhappy one. They gave me book! Benophie vibes, as well as Ross and Demelza).

  4. Tom Branson and Lady Sybil Crawley from Downton Abbey.

  5. Charles Brandon and Brigitte from s4 of The Tudors. (They are a minor plot point and are focused on during the last several episodes of that season).

Violet's Clueless

I know Violet is a beloved character but her cluelessness this season is frustrating.

It's clear she doesn't think that highly of her son if she thinks he's only after Sophie to have casual sex with her. Benedict is a rake but he won't ruin someone's life for pleasure. She knows her son well but she sees him baring his teeth when they try to stand between him and Sophie, has he done this about casual sex before? I don't think so, but okay Jan

Viewership Metrics

Wanted to point something out that I saw in the main sub because I know some were disappointed that S4 didn't make Netflix's top 10.

Netflix's calculation for total hours viewed is directly impacted by run time. Season 4 has a runtime of 8 hours 45 mins compared to Season 3's runtime of 7 hours and 55 mins. That's a whole hour more.

This is how Netflix calculates the views: Total hours watched ÷ runtime

If we reverse the calculation for both seasons to derive at total hours watched, it would like this (assuming S4 got 95m views, the higher end of the estimated range):

S4: 95m x 8.8h = 836 million total views

S3: 106m x 7.9h = 837 million total views

Virtually identical. Meaning if S3 had the same runtime as S4, it would also end up at a calculated 95m views.

Just wanted to put this out there because I'm getting so tired of the fandom treating viewership numbers like Kpop stan wars. The show has always done well and has consistently gotten 90 to 100m views. I hope it continues to do so.

Happy Benophie day💕🪁🥰

Thank you Shondaland for introducing many non book readers like me to Benedict and Sophie's world. Which has indeed made us go back to books as well.

Happy june 05th, Benophie day🪁💕🥰

Like Luke told Yerin, they'll always be Benedict and Sophie. It really is the beginning. Even after 200+ years of their meet cute timeline at the masquerade ball🎭

Can't wait for future seasons, until then here's a pouty Benedict yearnington in the last 2 slides representing all of Benophie fans🫠

I'm so happy that I came across the Benophie world via Lukerin❤️ here are some pics I absolutely 🥰 (damnit there's a limit of only 20 pictures, when I have a whole gallery)

Still, he will relish this moment with his fiancée for as long as it shall last.

On a high-stakes European press tour, actress Sophie Baek needs a literal parrot. Instead, she gets Ben Ledger: fluent in six languages, infuriatingly perceptive, and secretly hiding a Bridgerton inheritance. When he starts translating her hidden intent rather than her PR-scripted lies, their claustrophobic proximity combusts. She is determined to strip away his bohemian disguise, while he is determined to unravel the fiercely guarded woman beneath the fame.

The Heart Doesn't Forget

fictionfrek101 or u/Skyrogue77

Summary:

In 1803, sixteen-year-old Benedict Bridgerton is spending the summer in Paris when the Napoleonic Wars are declared and he becomes a prisoner of war. The Bridgertons constantly worry about their missing brother, working to find a way to bring him home when suddenly the letters stop.

In 1807, eighteen-year-old Sophie Baek is illegally sold as a maid to a family in Verdun, when she meets Benjamin Sojourner, a mysterious and handsome young Englishman who lost his memory in an accident three years earlier.

In 1814, twenty-three-year-old Colin Bridgerton is touring France when Sophie Lefèvre, a happily married seamstress invites him home for dinner. Upon arriving to the Lefèvre residence, Colin is shocked to run into his long thought dead brother, Benedict, now happily married with four children and has no idea what the hell Colin is talking about when he calls him “Benedict” much less “brother.”

How Colin is going to explain this one to the family is anyone’s guess.

Benophie and birth control

We always wonder if Benophie will be pregnant or already with a child at the beginning of S5, but what if their subplot is actually them trying to get pregnant? Not with an infertility storyline, but them starting to try for a baby after 2 years of birth control.

All the couples so far got pregnant rather quickly, but what if Benedict and Sophie defied expectations (which would be on brand for them) and actually decided to have a couple of years just for themselves before having a baby?

Benedict is the second son, so there's no pressing need for an heir. Also, S4 made a point to show us that: 1) Benedict knows how to avoid pregnancy; 2) Sophie is aware of her cycle and knows how to track it; 3) Benedict and Sophie know how to have a good time without going all the way.

So I think them still being childfree at the beginning of S5 and only getting pregnant by the end of it is a real possibility. Also, there hasn't been a pregnancy reveal moment between a Bridgerton couple yet, and I'd love to get one with Benophie. Lukerin's acting would probably turn this scene into a masterpiece. ❤️
