Showed my GF the new episode...

So previously I made my girlfriend watch the anime with me and she was reluctantly getting into it (it wasn't until Nano's episode that it started to click with her). She's never been a big fan and more often likes to make fun of me for how much I like it, but was okay with watching all of seasons 1-2 with me.

Today I had her watch Season 3 Ep 1 with me. By the time we reached the ending, she was naturally completely shocked by the outcome and decided she was done with the series. Fair enough. Later she started busting my balls a bit, saying things like, "enjoy your disgusting pedophilic incest show" (but in an exaggerated tone). I tried retorting by pointing out that they were common tropes in most anime, including ones she liked. She somewhat denied it, then immediately after that she checked out an anime where the first episodes conflict was resolved with a girl kissing a cat's butthole. Once that happened I made sure to stare at her with a smug smile and she just bashfully told me to shut up.

Just a funny little anecdote I thought I'd share. And don't worry, my girlfriend never goes on reddit so she won't see this.

A little conflicted about this element.

I think it's a bit out of character for Rentarou to ask for a new girlfriend's acceptance when ANY of his other girlfriends are absent. As we see in this chapter, if the immediate girlfriends approve but the absent ones have drama with her, things will go wrong, and I feel like Rentarou would usually have the foresight to avoid this type of situation. It feels like his intelligence was somewhat nerfed here for the sake of the drama. Plus it undermines the purpose of the introduction chapters which is to:

  1. Have him be fully transparent,

  2. Show that he values each of their individual inputs equally,

  3. Let the girls iron out any friction and become comfortable enough to be around one another regularly.

BUT,

At the same time I love how casual Kurumi and Momiji are when they show up, see Rana, then put 2 and 2 together. It's hilarious that they've gotten used to this routine, but also sweet because it goes to show how much they trust Rentarou: to the point that he can add a new girlfriend without them knowing and niether feel threatened by her showing up.

I'm hoping this is a one-off incident, but the idea of the Rentarou family becoming a more democratic unit does sound amusing.

Is it just me, or is Rentarou's design peak?

I can't quite understand it, but after seeing several other animes now, I can say for certain that no male character design has really appealed to me the way Rentarou's does. Wheras so many other Male MC's (especially in romance and harems) look cookie-cutter and stiff, something about his appearance, no matter what form he takes or expression he's making, I find so endlessly endearing. He's simultaneously cuddly, yet masculine; handsome, yet approachable; youthful, yet mature; rough, yet so pure. Did Yukiko Nozawa achieve the perfect boyfriend design? Or am I just imagining things?

I was wondering if anyone better versed in manga and anime design terms could explain the magic behind Rentarou's design in particular.

A wild thought about Rentarou's dad.

How funny would it be if the reason we haven't yet seen Rentarou's parents was because his dad had his own harem, maybe up to 100 wives?

Sub or Dub for season 3?

I will watch both dubs eventually, but I'm leaning towards the dub for my first watch as I'm thinking that Miss Naddy's dialogue will land better in English for us non-Japanese speakers. I can't imagine hearing her lines in anything other than a wacky cowgirl accent and I can't wait to hear the performance that the English voice actress has in store for her, she will probably be a delight.

Here's something (not) new, a tier list! Based on how attractive I find each one.

Features girls 1-37. The list does descend within each row as well, except for the top ten, they all tied.

Tell me the worst version of "100 girlfriends" you can imagine.

Given how the manga is constantly able to impress us with how well it handles these characters and situations, I'm really curious what people think of when they imagine how the series could've gone wrong, or had it been as dumb and trashy as initially expected before actually reading the manga or watching the anime.

I only recently started watching anime regularly and the only Harem anime I had seen before was "Rent a Girlfriend," so my expectations were probably the worst they could be. I was absolutely sure the MC would be an annoying pathetic loser and the girlfriends would act like brainwashed zombies that were attracted to him for no good reason, and he would maybe be attracted to one girl who showed the most resistance, and it would be constant will-they/won't-they shenanigans that go nowhere while the other girls would "annoy" him with their affections.

Side note: This was the perfect series to wash the taste of "Rent a Girlfriend" out of my mouth.

Moments that made you cry?

Just finished my first reading of Chapter 135 in the manga. I was teary eyed throughout but as soon as I finished I had a good cry for almost 5 minutes afterwards. I love it when a comedy series can blindside me with an emotional gut-punch like that. It's the most tears I've welled up since (fittingly) Shizaku's first arc.

I want to know what moments of either the manga or anime made you cry at all, be it a single tear or ugly cry, out of sadness or joy, and why.

I included panels of the scenes that got to me.

Am I overthinking Hakari's "French kissing?"

Context: Near the end of "I Want to Eat your Beef Tongue," it's revealed that Hahari played french kissing roulette with the girls in preparation for her trick on Kurumi, and it's revealed to us that Hakari was the one she ended up kissing. That's funny and all, but I couldn’t help but feel incredibly icky at the next panel that explains that it's fine because "she was inundated with such kisses while she was still an infant (unbeknownst to her)."

I don't know if I'm the only one, but the wording of that paired with the sound effects in Hahari's speech bubble made me think Hahari was literally french kissing her infant daughter, and I'm really hoping that's not the case. On re-read I think it's probably more a joke about how sloppy baby kisses can be but I'm not 100% sure. Am I misreading it? Was something lost in translation? Or am I overthinking this joke? Can anyone enlighten me? Please and Thank You.
