A friend and I would like to place a cache around our regional town. The rules/guidelines on the site seem a bit complicated. Can someone dumb it down for us?

Can we just place a jar with a home made note book inside? Do we need to have a blurb for muggles in case they find it? Does there need to be a QR code or can we just write a link to the geocache web page?

Anything else completely obvious that we missed?

I'm visiting with a few people (including someone with special needs), until Sunday. We've done the wineries, treetop climbs, zoo and markets so far. I found the dolphin sanctuary on maps today but the forecast looks rainy, so I thought I'd ask locals for suggestions instead
