Subacute thyroiditis or something else?

I was diagnosed with subacute thyroiditis after ruling out hashimotos thyroiditis in May/June. I’ve had 2 lots of ultrasound, 3 blood tests since April. In May/June I had painful swelling on the left of my thyroid, swollen lymph nodes and inflamed thyroid. The pain sometimes carries down to the base of my throat and my left collarbone. For a while I was managing with ibuprofen, but then it continued to flare up every few weeks. Doctor prescribed me with a higher anti inflammatory med which again helped, but has continued to flare up with pain. I’m a teacher and using my voice lots makes this really tricky. I’ve been having lots of hyperthyroid symptoms: crazy mood swings, anxiety, struggle to sleep at night, tremors in hands… all that stuff.

But recently I went back to doctor because pain won’t go away. It’s been months. And she ordered another ultrasound and blood tests. Ultrasound now shows a benign cyst on the right side of thyroid, and my lymph nodes are no longer inflamed. But the pain is still bad on the left side of my neck. TSH levels, T3 and 4 are totally normal. I’ll also add that I have signs of thyroid vascularity too which is interesting and is different to the last round of tests.

I feel like I’m losing my mind. Has anyone had similar issues with either developing a cyst with SAT and/or thyroid levels go back to normal but you still have pain that you once did at the start of diagnosis?

Thanks 😭

Scotland road trip in December

Hello all

My husband and I have booked a trip to the UK in December, most of which will be in Scotland and then in London over Christmas week.

Disclaimer: We couldn’t do this trip any other time. We know it will be cold and dark!

We are doing Edinburgh, then hiring a car in Glasgow, road tripping from there to Fort William, Portree and then de-hire the car in Inverness. We will then take the Caledonian sleeper train down to London. We’re going to take our time and not rush it - the Scotland part of the trip will be just under 2 weeks.

I’m wondering how the roads tend to be in these places in mid December? Particularly highways and main roads. We will hire an SUV and try to get the good tyres for the weather. My concern isn’t necessarily about snow, but ice. We will only drive during sunlight hours, not at nighttime.

How risky would this road trip be? We are from Australia, though I grew up in the U.S. and was quite used to dealing with snow/ ice (and do not want to drive in ice again 😮‍💨)
Thanks!

Advice for December UK holiday

Hello all,
I am looking for advice on my 2.5 week holiday to the UK with my husband. We initially planned for this trip to happen April of this year, but had to cancel as we were flying with Emirates and we are from Australia.

December is the only time of year we can make this postponed trip work. We’ve booked tickets from the 12th to 29th, arriving and departing Heathrow. What I’m seeking is advice on where to go, and when, particularly for Christmas Day as we know everything is shut.

We have been to the UK before and so we’re not too fussed on seeing the “must see” things. We’ve done London, Edinburgh, York and Liverpool. We want to go and do London and Edinburgh again and would like to also see more of Scotland and perhaps other places in England, like Oxford.

We want to know - should we do Christmas period in London or Edinburgh? My husband is convinced Edinburgh, I’m convinced London as we would at least have some chance of a few more things being open. I also want to spend good quality time in Edinburgh as it was my favourite city last time.

We also want to know - any other places we should visit?

Thanks everyone.
(Yes we know it will be freezing, wet, and dark! We want to escape Aussie summer 😬)
