Tib/fib fracture. 5 days post op.

Hi All,

Glad I’ve found this community as I think it may help me and looks like it’s full of reassuring stories! For reference I am 28 M.

Last Friday night I slipped on some shoddy stairs and broke my left tibia and fibula a few inches above my ankle. I’m in the UK so was taken to A&E where they did an x-ray, CT scan and admitted me for surgery. I had the surgery Sunday afternoon and appears everything went well. I have a plate and a number of screws in my tibia, as well as a rod for my fibula. I’ve had my leg in a light dressing plus a moon boot since Monday morning, no cast. So far I’ve been told strictly NWB for 6 weeks with a view to being walking again at 3 months. I believe the fracture on the tibia was described as a spiral fracture. I was discharged Tuesday after physio did some work with me on crutches and have been home since. On Wednesday evening I had some severe sickness as well as diarrhoea which seems to be improving day by day, though I’ve had a much smaller appetite since. I should also have a post op appointment in about 10 days which should include another x ray and a consultation for next steps, perhaps some physio.

At the moment I’m on the following meds:
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Codeine phosphate
Lansoprazole (to line the stomach for regular ibuprofen)
Aspirin
Stool softeners (if required)

I have a few questions if anyone would be so kind as to answer!

  1. Does the NWB for 6 weeks, suggestion of walking at 3 months sound right?
  2. Could the sickness have been caused by the anaesthetic wearing off fully? Or my medication? I’m terrified of this happening again
  3. Anyone else have a loss of appetite first week post op? Does this improve?
  4. Is anyone else going through a similar recovery? I’d love someone to message that’s on a similar journey for support
  5. Crutches are a pain… I seem to get tired quite quickly with them, either due to my good leg feeling tired or my bad leg feeling heavy/sore - any advice on mobility?
  6. Please tell me it get’s better? I know I’m only 5 days post op, and I’m generally an optimist, but I’ve really struggled today

Thanks all in advance, happy to answers any questions!

Buying my first Model Y - 2022 vs 2023, RWD vs LR? (£20k budget)

Hello!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I’ve been leasing an MG ZS EV through work for the last four years, but the lease is up in October and I’m finally planning to buy a Tesla Model Y (can’t wait!).

The timing works out nicely because we’re also moving house in the next month or so, meaning I’ll finally have the ability to charge at home. Up until now I’ve been relying entirely on public chargers and charging at work.

I do around 12,000 miles a year. The MG’s 198-mile WLTP range has been… character building 😅. Most of my driving is short trips (under a 50-mile round trip), but we also do the occasional 100-200 mile journey to visit family or head away for a weekend/holiday.

I’ve got a few decisions to make and would love to hear from people who’ve been in a similar position:

2022 vs 2023 Model Y
Is the updated suspension on the 2023 actually noticeable? We’ve now got a 4-month-old baby, so comfort is definitely more of a priority than it used to be.

RWD vs Long Range
This is the one I’m really struggling with.

After four years of living with sub-200 miles of range and no home charging, I really like the idea of having the extra range and AWD of the Long Range. My budget is around £20k, though, which means I’m generally looking at either:
- a RWD with around 50k miles, or
- a Long Range with around 75k miles.
Would you prioritise the extra range/spec, or the significantly lower mileage?

LFP vs NMC
I’m also interested in people’s experiences with LFP vs NMC batteries. I tend to keep my cars for a long time (planning on 8-10 years), so long-term ownership is a big factor.

One other thing worth mentioning is that I currently have a TentBox on the MG and plan to put it on the Tesla too, so I know that’ll knock the efficiency down a bit as well.
Anything else I should be looking out for when buying a used Model Y?

TL;DR: Coming from four years in an MG ZS EV with no home charging. Finally getting home charging and looking to buy a used Model Y for around £20k. Torn between:
- 2022 vs 2023 (mainly for the suspension improvements)
- RWD (~50k miles) vs LR (~75k miles)
- LFP vs NMC for 8-10 years of ownership

Also have a TentBox, so range will take a bit of a hit. What would you choose?

Thanks!
