False Report of Lost/Stolen Passport
Has anyone ever had this happen to them?
Long story short, traveling back from Canada and the border patrol officer goes to check our passports and they say that mine is flagging as stolen or lost. They tell us that we need to go inside and talk to an agent. I was very confused because I’ve never lost or had my passport stolen and I’ve had it for almost 10 years now. After going inside and talking with an agent, they asked me if I have ever reported my passport stolen or loss, which I told them no.. they continue to question me as they had no solution as to why this was happening. They basically told me the passport was now government property and I could not get it back. They were able to give me a pass, saying that I was allowed back into the United States but I would need to get a new passport for the next time that I travel. They gave me a number to call to see if I could get my old one back. One of the most confusing parts is that they stated this report occurred in 2023 however, I have traveled to both Canada and Mexico in 2024 and did not have any issues. I was also never contacted whenever this report happened to verify that I really did lose it and that it wasn’t a scam. I have called the number I was given.. got no answer and left voicemail.
