Picked Up the game last November with high master as the goal. Couple of breaks and DLC later I hit it today!
Nothing ground breaking but I am happy. Started out on Cammy and got her to master in a month but floated around 1400. I know a lot of people have said Yasmine is boring and one note but something about her move set was really fun to me so I decided she would be the one I got high master with. Even though there is a ton to work on still and I had some promising sets with 1600/1700MR players I think this is where the grind stops for me.
edit: It wasn't interesting/educational/entertaining enough.
What made the difference to go from 1400mr to 1600mr? in no particular order dp anti air, jab counter hit conversions, reaction drive rush to some laggy moves, learning the cast as a whole a little bit better, and having longer play sessions. I know often the advice is to play in short bursts but I found that I was doing my best 1 or 2 hours into a play session
What didn't contribute? Combos. everyone says this but it felt really true for yasmine. I basically just went with her basic bnb and nothing else. she has some cool stuff if you don't have buff and want max damage, but I rarely went for that in games.
How long did it take in hours? Kind of hard to say. to get to master the first time was 60ish hours. I would say since yasmine release I probably have close to 60 hours on her.
Have you played street fighter before? No, but I played a lot of smash at a somewhat competitive level. the gameplay does not transfer but things like watching you opponent, adapting, and focusing on safe pokes do so that helped I am sure.
What do you think of Yasmine? She isn't very good I am afraid. I don't know a ton so you shouldn't listen to me but you get into situations where you can not kill when every other character would. or at least cammy could who is also low damage. Lv2 feels bad. when you have some absurd moves filling the Lv2 slots of other characters it wouldn't of hurt to tune hers a bit stronger. Finally neutral, at least for me, felt awful. you have no good pokes really so if you are not drive rushing at them they are in a better spot. you are missing any good fireball answers as well.
Why did you play her then? I like when combo routes change mid game. probably a carry over from smash. I like rush down. I also like that her combo route isn't moves into drive rush into moves into drive rush ect. you use drive in more ways with her it felt like. but all of this could be wrong at higher levels of play
Least favorite match up? Alex. Post buffs I actually have no clue how to deal with this guy
favorite match up? kinda a weird one but I like zangief. Something is really appealing about slowly getting down this titan of a health bar with my low damage combos. I should win every interaction and keep him locked down but one mistake and I lose half my health. normally that would be frustrating but I found myself enjoying it
is this entertaining enough?
