Howdy, I am planning a two week visit to Switzerland for my honeymoon in October and was hoping to get some input on my preliminary

Date Base Itinerary
Tue 10/6 Lucerne Arrive Zurich → train to Lucerne. Explore Old Town, Chapel Bridge, lakefront, Musegg Wall
Wed 10/7 Lucerne Mount Pilatus OR Mount Rigi day trip
Thu 10/8 Interlaken Scenic train Lucerne → Interlaken. Explore Interlaken, Harder Kulm
Fri 10/9 Interlaken Lauterbrunnen Valley + Mürren
Sat 10/10 Interlaken Grindelwald / Kleine Scheidegg OR Brienz + Giessbach Falls
Sun 10/11 Montreux Scenic GoldenPass route to Montreux. Visit Chillon Castle
Mon 10/12 Montreux/Gruyères Day trip to Gruyères: medieval town, Gruyères Castle, HR Giger Museum
Tue 10/13 Montreux/Gruyères Lavaux vineyards OR Rochers-de-Naye OR Lausanne
Wed 10/14 Zermatt Train to Zermatt. Village exploration + Gornergrat sunset
Thu 10/15 Zermatt Matterhorn Glacier Paradise OR Five Lakes hike (light option)
Fri 10/16 Ascona Scenic train via Valais + Simplon/Ticino to Ascona
Sat 10/17 Ascona Bellinzona castles + Lake Maggiore towns
Sun 10/18 Zurich Train to Zurich. Explore Old Town, Lindenhof, lakefront
Mon 10/19 Zurich Departure (early flight)

Specific Questions

  • How is the general pacing of the itinerary?

  • One or two nights in Ascona? It might be nice to go to Bellizona then straight to Zurich (and leave our bags in luggage lockers). This would also give us two nights in Zurich/shorten our train travel time back.

  • Of the activities with multiple options, are there any things that stand out?

  • Will gladly take restaurant recommendations for less touristy places.

Thank you very much!
