Another ridership map
Another ridership map using u/glowing-fishSCL's data. Rather than constraining it to quintiles or fixed percentages, this one uses variable size buckets to somewhat balance the number of states per bucket. The bucket sizes are arbitrary but felt reasonable (especially for the 90+% range when rounding to the nearest whole number) and similar between the two maps.
There are two versions - one with total ridership, and one excluding NEC/Acela to show how much it affects the ridership for certain states. It's not completely accurate since I used 2024 ridership data (taking the ratio of NEC/total 2024 numbers) but it should be pretty close. NY is still #2 excluding the NEC/Acela, PA is #4 (from #3), most other NEC/Acela states drop quite a bit more, and RI is zero.
I suppose you could do the same to separate LD and state-supported ridership data from each other if you really wanted to, but I don't know if there is a way to do that other than counting route by route and station by station which would take a huge amount of work.
