I got a notification from Amtrak that train 6 out of Emeryville is stopped in Davis due to a service disruption. I'm supposed to catch it tomorrow from Denver to Chicago. Does anyone on that one know what's causing the delay?
Help needed. Any suggestions on a good block or intersection to drop off and pick up family at Newark Penn Station? I’ve looked at a map and looked up directions, but it’s still unclear to me. Thanks
Just checked the price for a booking I have in September and it’s dropped $300. I modified the booking and selected the same date and it automatically refunded the difference back to my credit card.
Worth checking if you have future travel booked.
Hi! Planning to take a trip with a total of 5 adults and four kids this coming Saturday to old orchard beach on the Downeaster. Anyone have experience bringing strollers on this train? A double or a single? Also, how long is the walk from station to beach?

When I try to buy a ticket for Tuesday the option is available, but Monday and Wednesday are cancelled. Is there partial service? I can’t find anything anywhere saying as much, and i hesitate to make travel plans that could get cancelled last minute, but i’d really rather ride the train than take a plane.
Also wondering if it’s not a bad idea to try and get on the borealis from milwaukee to chicago at 5:30 to catch the 10:05 CONO. Amtrak only packages it with the Hiawathas at 11am and 3pm, but i’d really rather not wait 5 hours to switch trains.

I think Amtrak should do heritage units for the fallen flag railroads that originally operated some of Amtrak’s current routes. ALC-42’s in the same paint schemes of these similar to Norfolk Southern’s heritage unitsSome examples may be:

I need to get picked up in Harpers Ferry if im just at the stop with my ticket from yesterday that never came will I be able to get on I cant get in contact with any support.
What locomotives were leading empire builder to Seattle yesterday or today because in Williston nd I heard a weird horn on it
They said it couldn't be done! Over 2 hours and 20 minutes longer than the previous record delay, a full 8 hours and 3 minutes later than the original arrival time. I know that can't compare with the trains out west, and I've been on some of them, but I was at least amused to see that we set a new record. Major props to the crew for the water and snack packs and for keeping us updated. A combo of the heat, the wind, and signalling delays kept our speed low then a stalled train on the single track before Roanoke kept us waiting just 25 miles from our destination from about 3am onwards.
And this wasn't even the end of our trip... was relieved to see a supervisor from our thruway connecting service waiting for us near the platform to see if anyone needed the bus! Posting from that right now.
Not sure why it lists the train as having left NYC 7 hours late though, that is a bug. Left close to on time.
hi all! i am looking at booking a trip on the empire builder in early october heading eastbound from seattle - chicago. currently, all tickets show this route arriving around 4:45pm in chicago. in general, would booking a flight from ohare for 9:15pm be possible, or should i spend the extra money for a hotel for a night in chicago and fly home the next day just to be safe? thank you in advance!

I'm currently on the California Zephyr on the way home of a RT Emeryville <--> Grand Junction trip.
I was talking to one of the train crew getting on at Grand Junction and they said they added three cars today so the train was extra long. I'm in the 30 car, so closest to the middle of the sleepers and the train is quite long ahead of us! maybe it's always like this, I only ride it about once a year.
My question is how do they make the decision to add more cars? See there is demand and then add them? He made it sound like it was a last-minute change and three cars is a lot.
On the way from Emeryville to Grand Junction yesterday they dropped a sleeper the morning the train left.
Anyway, just curious about the logistics, particularly of adding so many cars.

Just got this message from Amtrak. Has anyone received a similar message in the past? I’ve never had to stand on a train before and definitely wouldn’t want to tomorrow as I’ll be on a 10 hour journey, but I also don’t really have great options to rebook. Just trying to understand if it’s actually likely I’ll be stuck standing
