Compressed air on stsinlessheet metal

Hello, looking for some advice from more experienced sheet metal welders than myself. I tig weld mostly stainless sheet metal 304, 316, 308 filler. 1/16 1/4 inch material. Recently a new hire has been using compressed air to cool down every weld he makes. I've never really done this or seen anyone else I work with do this. I usually just let my pieces cool naturally while I work on something else. I have my associates in welding and fabrication, but i dont really remember it being taught in school.

Is using compressed air necessary? Does it really prevent a noticeable amount of Warping/distortion? I usually just do stuff like pretty bending or pre setting if I need to keep a part square or flat. Rarely do I have a piece warp so badly that it cant be fixed. Thanks for any advice or info on this topic.
