Listen, I don't want to be an ass, but OH MY GOD some people seem to have never been part of a fandom before
Shipping is normal and to be expected when you have more than ONE CHARACTER in any piece of media. It's just going to happen. It's not World War III for someone to think X being with Y is cute
"But that character is not gay!" says who? You created the game? Kodaka told you that? People expect every single character to be "straight until proven otherwise", which is stupid. Let's take a character who doesn't have any romantic subtext with any other character or any allusion to their romantic/sexual interest as far as I remember, Kurumi. Is there any indication that Kurumi is straight? Maybe not. Is there any indication that Kurumi is not straight? Maybe not too. So pray tell: why would I have to defend my interpretation of Kurumi being a lesbian? Why do I need evidence that she's interested in girls to "justify" shipping her with any other female character? And then you think about it: would I need to prove that Kurumi is straight to ship her with a boy? No. Why's that? Because heteronormativity. Being straight is the default, so if you don't know someone's sexuality, you default to think they're straight, and this applies to fictional characters too
"But character X doesn't interact with character Y!" I'm going to metaphorically hold your hand when I say this. You ready? People don't care. People think X and Y are cute together and are going to draw them holding hands, there's nothing you can do about it. Danganronpa is a famous game that puts heavy emphasis on character relationships, there's GOING to have ship art. If you genuinely cannot stand some/all ships, just avoid it, but don't be an asshole and make it everyone else's problem. You're entitled to your opinion but so do others.
"But character X likes character Z, so you can't ship them with Y!" These people expect you to utilize the official content as religious and sacred texts that you must not profane or else your soul will be forever tormented in the pits of hell. Brother, I don't care if it's not canon, you engage with non-canon content too, everyone does. This subreddit and fandoms in general would be extremely boring if we talked EXCLUSIVELY about official content and nothing else, and that's because Danganronpa still has a big, active fanbase and new content being released, some fandoms are so small they don't even HAVE the luxury people actively discussing and making fanmade content of it
At the end of the day, just let people be whimsical and silly about them thinking X and Y are cute together. It's not wrong, it's not "larping" (this word's meaning has suffered on the hands of the internet as much as gaslighting istg), you don't need to shit on people for shipping. We're all civilized individuals, we can tolerate ships we dislike without hating on people who like it
Also, because someone would inevitably bring this up, none of this applies to incestuous or pedophilic ships. If you ship an adult and a kid or two siblings and you're going to hell.
