I am Canadian, half Italian and half Portuguese.

On the Italian side I am definitely fourth generation, since my great-grandfather immigrated here at the turn of the 20th century.

But it gets more complex on the Portuguese side, since my grandparents came over already with two kids. In this case, who is first-generation? The grandparents definitely are, but my aunt and uncle are in a bit of a grey area because they can't be first generation because they're not my grandparents and they're not second generation since they were not born here. In this case, what generation are my aunt and uncle classified as?
