Content warnings: None
High level: This is a contemplative/reflective story about a man that leaves earth to explore the stars and meet new species. He describes several encounters and reflects on his exploration and what leaving earth meant to him in a letter to his granddaughter.

A few short decades later, we encountered a civilization unlike any other so far. I highlight this account for you, not for any profound reason other than the hope that you might understand just how strange our encounters can get in this galaxy we call home. I'll be the first to admit that we may have flown right past them, had we not received a signal while surveying their planet.

The only light was from our lamps. A slight breeze animated our cloaks as we looked around the room at the smooth walls and utterly drab colors. There was nothing to look at in the slightest, even if there was sufficient lighting. The echoing footsteps told us we would find out why soon.

Feedback requested: I am looking for feedback more in general, but I guess I'd like a focus on the story itself and my ability to tell it. Of course, any critique is welcome.
Timeline: It's a quick read so I'd like to hear back within a week or 2
