My relocation to Sofia was cancelled one day before my move after a signed contract and completed onboarding

I was supposed to relocate to Sofia for a position with TELUS Digital Bulgaria after completing a fully finalized recruitment and onboarding process, including:

  • signed employment contract,
  • onboarding,
  • administrative registration,
  • relocation preparation,
  • confirmed start date.

I organized my life around this move and spent money preparing for relocation because I was repeatedly reassured that everything had already been finalized internally.

Then literally one day before my relocation and confirmed start date, the employment was suddenly withdrawn due to an internal issue that should clearly have been identified much earlier.

What followed afterwards honestly left an even worse impression.

During later discussions, serious process and coordination failures were openly acknowledged, and I was repeatedly assured — both verbally and in writing — that reimbursement for the direct financial loss caused by the company had already been approved and would be processed promptly.

Instead, the following weeks became repeated reassurances, repeated silence, repeated requests to resend the same information, and continuous chasing for updates without meaningful resolution.

At some point, a person stops feeling treated professionally and starts feeling managed until they eventually give up.

I genuinely did not expect an experience like this from an international company operating in Bulgaria, and unfortunately the entire situation left a very negative impression regarding relocation and professional reliability surrounding this process.

Without question one of the most disappointing professional experiences I have encountered.
