His father was a long dead lawyer who was already retired, so I guess he could have been working for his mom's family, but why was he even doing that? His grandfather (?) died and left him so loaded that he wanted to buy Lorelai a castle and a Bentley and paid for Yale and paid to have a restaurant open in Paris so they could have middle of the night dinner, so why was he still working? And the follow up question, why was Rory living out of suitcases and boxes in various peoples' homes and not knowing where her underwear were when she had a trust from Trix, a wealthy father, and presumably money from Richard?
