Remodel a 1980s Oak Kitchen + Dining Room

I have orange/honey oak trim all over my house -- baseboards and windows. Part of me hates them, part of me loves them. There is a world where I paint them, but this is an early 1980s house, and I know there is no going back, so my first attempt at a remodel would be to preserve it.

Everything else will be brand new -- floor, cabinets, countertops, furniture, rugs, lighting, railing, and even the pantry is a new creation. I'm trying to find a color palette that will make everything feel cohesive.

I'm planning on making the island chairs a soft green.

Basically, I'm open to any and all feedback. Does the layout work? Will it be an issue to have the stairs head straight to the island? Do the colors clash or work together?
