Dim Area on One Side of TV

The photos are highly exaggerated, but they show the darkened left side of the TV that I can notice on fully black screens. In real life, the purple part just looks dark grey. I can’t really notice anything while actually gaming, except maybe some subtle discoloration.

Is there anything I can do to alleviate this, or is it just something to get used to?

A few weeks ago, I was able to get my hands on a 32" Broksonic TV from 2005. I also had my eye on a 2006 32" Toshiba. I researched and found that both were manufactured by Orion. What does that mean for the quality difference between the two? Are they functionally similar or does the Toshiba-branded one have certain advantages?
