In the season 3 patch, DICE has already made some improvements to the water rendering

So I was looking for some leaks by our Chinese friends at Bilibili yesterday and l saw a post where someone said that the water looked different compared to how it was before and they were right it looked different.

I decided to set up a portal server to see it myself on Manhattan Bridge and the water rendering is indeed improved. Before in this map the water had a uniform dark color and a jelly like texture, you couldn’t see anything in the shoreface and the fluid simulation was mostly broken and only worked with your character. Now they simulate how shallow and deep water look and the fluid simulation actually works with characters, guns, explosive and so on.

On Manhattan Bridge it looks kinda odd to have this blue water at the edges but I assume this is meant for the naval maps so there it will look fine but now you can see an almost crystal clear water and it gets more and more opaque the deeper you go.

So I saw a post comparing here between Railway To Golmud and Mirrak Valley and the first thing I noticed is that the HQ are actually smaller in this version of Railway than labs version. For the Pax size is a quite substantial reduction. Pretty nice. I don’t know how it compares to the original but it should give similar playable area now compared to the Labs build of the map.

So I was playing BF6 when I started to notice some warping in the ground if I looked at an angle, I have been playing the game since the beta so I would have notice it earlier. At close inspection the ground have what appears to be displacement mapping. For everyone wonder, displacement mapping is a way to give texture a 3D look without having to actually to make them 3D and one of the disadvantages it’s that if you look at them at some angle you can more or less break the effect.

Every map now have this effect and from memory I don’t remember them before the last patch. This is not something new in BF btw and DICE used them in BFV and BF2042 so I don’t know I truly don’t remember this effect in BF6 and DICE is known to make changes but never put them on the patch notes.

So any of you guys have notice this? Was this always in the game or do you have some video that shows the ground before the season 2 patch?

Edit: For everyone wondering about the colors, by default the PS5 converts video from HDR to SDR, I play with HDR so when I exported the video it gives me an SDR version of a HDR capture, this blows the lighting and colors.
