So I recently found out that 2 out of the 4 owners at my job don’t like me, and I’m trying to figure out if I’m missing something or if this is just… workplace politics.

Owner #1: I took over a program that had originally been set up by a GM. About 6 weeks later, I was asked to take it over. When I stepped in, I tried to clean things up and make sure everything was actually compliant/legal. The issue is, I wasn’t given any financial support to run it properly, and on top of that, my laptop got stolen during all of this. After that, they basically pulled the program back and seemed frustrated that turnout dropped after the first event—which, for the record, was well attended and went great.

Owner #2: This one is more personal, I guess? I’m a bartender, and I tend to anticipate guests’ needs—including his. Apparently that’s being interpreted as me being “selfish” because he tips well when he drinks. The thing is, everyone behind the bar knows that—it's not like I’m doing anything different than standard service or singling him out for some special reason.

I take my job seriously, I try to do things the right way, and I put effort into both operations and customer service. So it’s frustrating to feel like I’m being judged negatively for things that either weren’t fully in my control or are literally part of doing my job well.

Has anyone else dealt with ownership or management just… deciding they don’t like you? How did you handle it?
