I watched a 34 year old Simon Després lose a hockey game against the US in Hobart, Australia tonight.
It was the third match between the US and Canada in what was called the.”Ice Hockey Classic”. The teams were made up of mainly Australian Ice Hockey League players (including Simon Deprés) and was played on a temporary ice surface.
The Canadian side jumped out to a 3 goal lead in the first period but eventually fell to the us on America’s 250th birthday 8-6.
The play was shit. The ice was slow. The Australian crowd was very pro-Canada. But it was the first “real” ice hockey I have seen since moving to Australia from Pittsburgh 17 years ago.
