So they teased both game mode, and something for veteran players, and they talked specifically for the older tower system. So what if they add a new challenge, like Heroic and Iron, maybe now we will have classic? Each stage can have one this way, it will be like you can only use 4 specialized towers, archers,mages, barracks, artillery with 2 level 4 upgrades obviously (and I would think those towers only exist in that mode,and you normally can't equip them) and also maybe you can only use one hero in that challenge
