Kia EV5 — reproducible low-speed noise when transitioning from acceleration to regen
I’m trying to identify a noise coming from my Kia EV5. I’ve attached a video with the sound.
The noise is most noticeable at low speed, specifically when the car transitions from accelerating to decelerating.
I can reproduce it by:
- Accelerating gently at low speed and then lifting my foot off the accelerator
- i-Pedal / regen level 3 makes it particularly easy to reproduce
- It also occurs at other regen levels
- It happens without pressing the brake pedal
- It also happens when driving in reverse
- The noise seems to occur right at the point where the drivetrain changes from positive torque to regenerative/negative torque
I'm wondering what this could be. I took it to the dealership 4 times already and they struggled to reproduce although they heard and acknowledged when I dropped it off but when they put it on the ramp they say they couldn't hear and they ask me to bring it back when they have more time to investigate. Very frustrating. Last I heard is that they booked me in for a week in Nov to do proper investigation (and he said they need to start tearing things apart to find out)
Has anyone with an EV5 experienced this exact noise?
I'd particularly appreciate opinions from people who have heard it in person or have technical knowledge of Kia/Hyundai EV drivetrains.
Thanks!
