Wind V2L Canada?

Can anyone confirm that the Wind model has V2L capability in Canada? I believe it does but have seen mixed discussions about it so wondering if anyone has a V2L adapter and tried it in Canada.

Appreciate it

Just got my new EV5!

New to the EV5 club! 🥳 Just picked up my Kia EV5, coming from a 2021 VW ID.4 - my second ever EV. So far I’m loving it, and I’m getting around ~470 km estimated range with the AC on (64kwh). Excited to see how it holds up over time!

EV5 Blind spot camera

Currently looking into purchasing an EV5 here in Canada. Was really impressed with a Model Y test drive, but I love the features the Land trim has here and also qualifies for the EVAP rebate. I was trying to determine by reading the spec sheet, but does the EV5 have a blind spot camera display on the main dash when you change lanes, similar to the tesla? Thanks.

Uphill and Downhill Driving

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a long road trip across Thailand in my Kia EV5 (AWD), and parts of the route involve several long, steep mountain climbs and descents.

Coming from a traditional gas car, I'm used to dropping into a lower gear on long downhills to prevent overheating the brake pads. Since the EV5 doesn't have a low gear, I have a few doubts about how best to set up the vehicle for steep paved road as I am also not sure if I can rely on the regenerative braking.

For those who have driven the EV5 through steep mountain passes or similar terrain, what drive modes and regen settings do you use? Any tips or quirks to watch out for?

Thanks in advance and well wishes to anyone who passes by my post!

Towbar and Roof Racks in Oz?

Keen to get a towbar installed - how is everyone doing this in Australia - official Kia dealership or just take it to a towbar specialist?

Also, what about roof racks? A few websites show up zero results when I enter our EV5 model.

TIA

Range

How is the range calculated or stated on the site? I'm not familiar with EVs but what I've read is that range is stated at 487km. My EV5 is currently at 70% charge and shows 471km to empty, which I know in real world will be different. Just curious how they determine range as it'd appear if I charge the next 30% it could possibly display as 600km :)

The long road and the life after

I usually look at all the longevity of the products before purchasing the new tech stuff and while alot of the app (kia connect) I do find it a bit of a gimmick.

I had a shower thought this morning and while I understand the sim in the car is actually an "esim" it got me thinking...

- In another 10yrs time when we bring out all the other "G" services, whats the upgrade path for these older cars?

- What happens to the kia connect app when they decide its unmaintainable? Is this going to be another episode of the "Actron air" saga?

- I would also like to be able to turn off my telematics sometimes without having to go into a dealer. (Unless I've read the instructions wrong?)

- love to be able to talk to the car directly than over the internet or roll my own services and control from my home assistant (yes I'm one of those guys)

- also like to be able to download the data that kia is collecting

Anyways let's see how well the platform lasts

Terrible headrest

I'm back from a test drive. Liked the car a lot for a lot of reasons, but I came back with neck pain. The headrest are terrible - I could not find a position in which I was comfortable, they always pushed my head too far forward.

Is this something that can be addressed in some way?

Kia app crashing the phone

Do you ever have a Kia app crashing your phone, requiring a hard reset? Happens to me once every couple of weeks or so, usually when I try to control the Aircon remotely. I am on Android

Winter tire rims for Ev5 Land

Recently bought a EV5 Land FWD in Southwestern Ontario. Have a twice weekly 200km round trip commute coming this winter and am shopping snows and rims. Tires are pretty straight forward shopping Nokian Hakk r5’s, but the rims seem impossible to find. No online shops have the vehicle listed and fitting seems complicated with offsets, bore, etc. Any advice or thoughts on how to source affordable rims would be appreciated.

Trickle Charger Fault

TLDR: we have been told that the portable, plug-in trickle charger that comes with the car is not meant to be used all the time - only for emergencies. Have you been told this?

For reference Kia EV5 MY2025

We picked up our EV5 in mid April and have been charging overnight - very consistently and happily - using the 10A setting on the portable trickle charger provided by Kia upon purchase of the car. The charger is plugged into a 15A circuit of its own to take full advantage of the 10A draw.

Approximately mid June, the charger began to intermittently fault “E5” overnight. We figured as it’s winter here in Australia maybe the plug was actually getting too cold causing the fault. Even though the car and charger are in a garage. Mid July the fault began happening every time we tried to charge the car - even in the middle of a nice 20° day. We decided to test on a second 15A circuit installed in our house - different electrician - and it was still faulting.

Also at this time we had a couple of “Check EV System” messages pop up on the dash on days of long drives but the next day it would be gone and no faults were recorded on the car or on the Kia Connect app - all systems still said normal.

We contacted our local Kia dealership and they were finally able to see us yesterday. We have been informed that it does appear to be a fault with the charger itself and that the car has a “pending” fault code, but everything seems okay. The service manager informed us that the portable charger is only meant to be used in emergencies and the we should just buy a wall mounted charger. This was pretty disappointing to hear as the trickle charger works just fine for our family’s needs. Has anyone else been told this information? He stated that all trickle chargers provided by manufacturers for all EV’s are only meant to be used in emergency situations. On EV pages I see comments from plenty of people that they solely charge using a trickle charger just as we have been.

They have ordered a new trickle charger for us and it is back ordered to arrive 6-8 weeks but he said it’s likely to be longer than that.

Anyone in Canada (specifically Alberta) get an updated delivery time

Quick question for the Canadian EV5 community, especially anyone located in Alberta.

I placed my order just over two months ago and was given an initial estimated delivery timeline of 1 to 3 months. Since then, it’s been pretty radio silent, and I haven't received any status updates or VIN assignments yet.

For those of you in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada have you received any recent updates, production notices, or revised ETA dates from your dealers?

TIA

Favorite Button (Star)

What does everyone have programmed as their favorite (star) button on their steering wheel and dash?

Ideally I wanted it to change between scrolling through favorite radio stations and just runing fm radio so I can get to any station. However doesn’t seem like that is an option.

Would like to hear what others have it programmed for.

Thinking about getting a new car

Thinking about getting an EV5, coming from an ID.4

I just sold my 2021 VW ID.4 X Pure 64kWh (China import) and I'm looking for my next car.

Right now I'm mainly looking at:

Kia EV5

Ioniq 5

EV6

And maybe the Rising R7, but honestly I'm probably not going for it. They've only really started becoming popular in Jordan recently and I'm not sure about reliability, parts and support yet.

The EV5 is the one I'm most interested in.

I went to see one today and I really liked it. It's funny because some of the smallest things stood out to me.

The bag holder, USB C for the rear seats, the trunk, and even having both 12V and USB A outlets. Coming from an ID.4, I really appreciate these practical little things.

It also has that feeling of some older German cars where they actually thought about small details and how people would use the car.

What I'm trying to figure out now is the stuff you don't really get from a test drive.

For EV5 owners:

What's the real world range you're getting?

I'm especially interested in highway driving around 100 to 120 km/h, mixed driving, and with AC on. I'm in Jordan so summer heat is also a factor.

I don't really care about the advertised range. I want to know what people are actually getting.

Also, what do you like and dislike about the EV5 after owning it?

Any problems, annoying things, software issues, charging issues, suspension, road noise, seats, AC, ADAS, interior quality, etc.

Basically, if you owned one for a while, would you buy it again?

And for anyone who's driven both, how does it compare to the Ioniq 5 or EV6?

I'm mainly looking for reliability, comfort, practicality and range. Not really interested in which one is faster.

Would appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who actually own one.

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm specifically looking at the Chinese-import EV5 Standard with the 64 kWh battery, as that's the version available to me in Jordan. The larger 84 kWh version isn't available here, so I'm mainly interested in real-world range/efficiency figures for the 64 kWh car.

One Weekend EV5 3 month update

Friday May 8th I took delivery of my Land FWD. Monday the 11th it went back to the dealership and is still there. So basically 3 months I have been without the car now.

I heard from the dealership today. Originally I thought the part they ordered would be here June 20th, turns out it was July 20th then the date got moved to August 18th. Today they notified me it would be 'early' September. That will make well over 4 months to repair it, assuming the parts actually show up and the repair is successful.

I dont have an exact date and I done even know what is ordered exactly. Something for the high voltage battery. The car will have to be shipped to Waterloo for repair when the parts show up.

Needless to say I am frustrated. Loved the car and and super bummed that it looks like the CAMVAP arbitration will likely be finalized before the car is fixed.

The Service manager at the dealer did say that the General Manager is in talks with Kia Canada for options. Everyone at the dealer is frustrated as well but its out of their hands.

If this wasn't so disappointing it would be laughable.

Home Charger - Ontario

Curious as to what charger people have at home? My car came a bit sooner than anticipated and I'm not looking at what L2 charger to get, along with the rebate programs.

See that Pion is having a flash sale but noticed it does not come with a native NACs port. Can get an adapter of course, but thinking it might just be easier, less points of failure, to have a charger with a native NACs port. Might be overthinking that a bit.

Wondering what everyone has gone with for their home chargers and if they are native NACS

Getting EV5 GT Line next week

As the title says, I am getting a new EV5 next week and only have one question. Does the car have inbuilt dash cam functionality?

I googled it and got mixed responses. I drove it last weekend, but didn't think to ask the dealer.

Not phased if it doesn't, just a nice to have, otherwise I will go buy an aftermarket one.

Edit: I am in Australia
