Season 3 had its moments

They finally turned things around slowly imo, yes

-it took way too long literally to the last few eps to give Macy own demon powers back like truly wtf that was actually evil to do that to her character on the WRITERS behalf

And ofc Mads had to leave so I assume things were bad bc you could tell she loved the show but yea writing got so bad dont blame her

BUT

- not perpetual dark lighting

- more sister scenes

- family lore

-mel got a handmade book of shadows back

- Maggie actually like a 21 y/o college student

- her curls

-Hacy even though I can't stand Harry, it's what macy wanted

- family scenes the 4

- giving Macy a friend in Jordan

- science Macy/hacy

- great magic causes some giant debacle how will they solve it and learn emotional lessons, episodes like the OG

-them defending women/innocents which yea all seasons but loved the narcissis episode etc

-macy got to go to nerdy Paris

-the eps had a good feeling often, ending with TCO hanging out like in the OG

Until the end ):

Writers wrote themselves into a hole imo (me complaining)

Compared to others endings on the cw charmed was so sad tbh like

Supergirl-karas finally free to be herself to the world, surrounded by family & friends, career stuff new exciting what she wanted, some people move or whatnot but overall

And roswell- main characters have like very many friends & family to lean on now that annoying max decided to safari another planet & michaels on honeymoon but other than that there are so many people to lean on eachother good life things good healing new relationships new careers i tbh dont remember what Liz is doing career wise but like I think shes good yes roswell was an exceptionally larger cast but like good ending story arcs wrapped up mostly besides maybe Maria but she had good stuff going too

Then theres charmed..

Their sister TCO freaking di*ed and mel is now ALONE in the manor with literally no one but her new kinda sister who lives in the backyard lmao and is like a friend at best imo

And the situationship she kinda friend zoned is ASLEEP for 7 years in the queer coded magic bar she is running for her, and only if she improves her time witch powers MAYBE can she see her

Career took a turn to just that atm (maybe leading the magical community)

Her ex almost fiancé who shes at least friends with works above the basement where mel & maggie have to spend part of their time literally working/living sometimes out of a basement in a corporate hippy hybrid workspace thing

Literal nightmare

Bc Maggie her closest sister moved out & also only has one person jordan at least a whitelighter (who we hardly got to see do that for her) nearby (the man whos been into her since she was 20 & he 26 which will never not be odd to me i see a 20 y/o & think thats a child but i digress) who she had a rocky at best relationship with but now moving in with we dont even see her graduate

The sisters not even living together and

Harry is off who knows where he spent so much of this series moping tbh like ill never think thats not dumb they spent 3 seasons of him being like "nooo i don't wanna become a bad whitelighter "*progressively becomes a bad whitelighter and if not that an annoying boyfriend to macy*" but I love TCO so much "

THEN when macys sisters, macy who he loved so much, the sisters who he loved so much WOULD NEED HIM THE MOST in season 4 he's off on another identity crises & says weird af shit to them like comparing their love for her

Like rude to all 3 of them imo
Complaining aside yes we saw a lot of character growth but ultimately not a lot of conclusions

But to be fair the last moments of the series I suppose turns that all on its head as they walk into the presumed halliwell manor so who knows

(And prue or macy or both shut the door)

& the inara alternate reality was a cool finale i did enjoy that

Not to get too ya know but I think its fascinating how both charmed series can be representative or not of the times they were in & moreso the money & society that allowed or didnt allow things

At least in the OG as traditional & pretty rushed to get the women all wed & with babies, as it was, there was stability & wrapped up plots and the sisters were in those ways set in their lives , traditions & all. But their careers were cool & continuing the charmed tradition. Ages like 28 to maybe 33? Or whatver age they are in the last montage

The reboot as the cast even said shows the current times uncertainty chaos, like of the economy & current affairs tbh its sad but realistic like so few women i know have economic or otherwise complete stability until like maybe 40 these days its crazy

& especially they wouldn't be at 22-28ish (wide range estimate)

Jobs, housing & relationships becoming so uncertain & scarce tbh

ALSO as "with the times" as they are WHY and HOW would Jordan & maggie, 2 students AFAIK be able to afford such a nice apartment , if it really were about the working class they may have to wait & stay home

But then again moving in with your romantic partner you fight with often to save on rent is very 2020s indeed

Seasons 2-4 just felt like intense character growth & stress with some moments of happy family ness

But no satisfying ending besides imo meeting the halliwells which ofc we couldn't see

Ironic bc as they said in season 1 via galvin, years of hardwork not paying off, blows

Yes there were some great scenes & ofc I loved the characters so much i still watch & complain all these years later

Macy & maggie was 1 of the strongest relationship imo

Tied with mel to maggie

Macy adored her from the start

Where they can finally hug in schrodingers future was a cute moment

Macy imo bc of the age difference and maybe just height lol she had an almost motherly dynamic towards maggie sometimes or ofc older sister

Mel had that too but also bc of their shared upbringing a v distinct older sister dynamic

These were similar to the halliwells imo

Parallels /some actual continuity

Maggie & therapy: realizing she wanted to be one via Parker then trying to heal him then jordan healing her later mentally & in his should have been more utilized actually for tco- whitelighter plot

Macy & harry: bugs 😂

Harry fear of bugs macy taken by a bug demon by her date , in s3: macy invents bug ear buds to communicate across magic

Macy: every season some sort of plot about letting her loved ones in & her demon side

Also s1 was great with foreshadowing

Harry:being a whiny British man either too afraid he's going to not be able to protect them or actually does not all bc his whole dual man schtick both making him do dumb things that mainly hurt Macy no matter how many times she asks him to be honest with her

Its the year of the bad future timeline in Schrodingers Future

And //:

God bless our 🇺🇲❤️🙏

Sometimes i really wish tco were real😭

Also Celeste was a great character

God the writing was bad

Besides the 10 abandoned plots

Harry "hi im-"

"James!..sorry u just look so much like my grandfather james"

Why would she call her own grandfather James to a stranger weird but I guess ok sure but then

"Oh im a cousin BY MARRIAGE twice removed"

"Oh that explains the resemblance"

HOW, HOW DOES THAT EXPLAIN THE RESEMBLANCE IF ITS BY MARRIAGE so is he married to her hypothetical grandfather's cousin or is he spd to be the grandson of James late wifes cousin

Either way what

We really loved this show lol

Macys arc demonstrated by her stand alone outfits, sad, curse you harry/ writers

S1 hiding to world but embracing who she is privately as witch & a nerd lol, creative use of it for sisters/town, now hopeful for magic & tco journey No sleeve white gown, crown

https://preview.redd.it/8ojlmtuf11dh1.jpg?width=545&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1060ace2ef17e74ae691e93e6957e41e97c3f0d

S2 hiding who she is as demon but using it to spy on demons/save witch / protect sisters, in weird friendship only with harry neither of them want & conflicted about the annoying darklighter Black blazer outfit

https://preview.redd.it/lf7i50mo11dh1.jpg?width=1333&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58f981f1046d6fa925912574b6ca2dad7626c056

S2 mad at harry for being dumb towards all of them but esp her & going with Abigail, a demon he accepts but not her, representing tco as Maggie's sister in evil wedding in demon ville, to abbys brother, uses demon powers when needed for family/ not let demons take over Black no sleeve pantsuit dress thing

https://preview.redd.it/m49rtfiw11dh1.jpg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6015399140d4006f12fd231ffddf42bf812bf6a0

S3 hiding who she is as witch, in a relationship with Julian not the one she really wants, cant take the science job offer she wants from him, infiltrating his company w/ Maggie to.. rescue Harry.. but also the magical world, possibly the human one

No sleeve dark blue gown

https://preview.redd.it/5pstnmc821dh1.jpg?width=369&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea5232fef550605db64b2dd47abfa7ddc75a1aa6

S3 finally at Paris in a relationship with the guy she wants (harry)... and thats it.. she does science trying to save them/ the world in private but they think the aliens cured them of the allergy so she's probably hopeful she can do everything including be with sisters have a life in all ways but nope that was a lie

And that's kinda how her story ends.. except she saves the whole world, at sacrifice to herself..):

Sparkly Black blazer shorts/skirt tights boots, looks more like her, looks like all the outfits combined Hair up in all these

Lenas season 4 experiment scene was a medical ethics nightmare imo

I know its a cw superhero show and you cant fully compare to irl but

That scene where she k*lls that like teenager trying to make people into superhumans was so psychologically coercive (& ofcourse medically strange) from a medical ethics pov

-First of all he looks like he's a teenager /at least young maybe just barely legal to consent

Psych: (these scenes that are meant to humanize Lena are all admissions she tried not to make at first due to the coercive nature)

-She tells him all about her private life & cries about her guilt about not saving her dead mother after he says he feels guilty about his brother increasing his desire to do the experiment

-She tells him how specially chosen he is

-to basically.. save the world

Yea to make her character like not a terrible person she gathers informed or what seems like informed consent from him a couple of times, she offers him money that would have been for regardless of if he continued or left the study, even tells him she's stopping the trial because

Medical/ human risk/ benefit/ burden of information/ decision:

- the risks are too high, now that she knows the kid...

-And that's the thing they projected a %15 medical risk of death told to him which she phrased as expiration (misleading language)

How did they get that we dont know but they only experimented with a handful of hearts? several of which died what was it like 1 became invincible yes we dont know what she was doing to him but

-Highly experimental study just saying the medical risk seems just..higher? & she says she excluded most of the applicants due to "risk tolerance" which we dont know in what context but if medically

-This guy/kid ALSO has medical issues of a kidney transplant who knows if that woulda have made it more dangerous

-thats the thing...risk /value means a lot of things theres their seemingly oddly low estimate of medical risk, immediate or long term risk , risk ACTUALLY adjusted for the person its regarding with their body, not just the average person anywhere..

the risk/value of this kid/young mans life..which is immeasurable

Yea she says no dude i want you to live (her a scientist adult to him a young sick guy) he's saying to her the potential benefits outweighs the risk now more he can like sacrifice (back) and he chose and they did it & it killed him

She gives the money to his family. He's a hero/ fallen angel in the episode theme

No disrespect to him or anyone irl obviously. He was a hero for sacrificing trying to save people but ultimately an uncessary sacrifice imo she had the knowledge & authority to guide him out of it even for a bit just to do more trials ideally, in this crazy excitement

also a fast one, one could argue it was about her tunnel vision about giving humans powers when there wasnt an immediate threat (yes pending maybe)

- also she reveals its HER study.. just so many things not best practice ofc

The way they wrote it was just cringe to me and did the opposite of character developing Lena to me

Who knows what other experiments could have been done instead. her conversation of risk in her position & lack of clarity & warning him then her bending to him so to make it ok because it's him... yes the agreement was made , worst outcome

Sad

Also he says its like..other things young mostly men do hoping to save the world at great danger to themselves..sometimes deciding when they are teenagers and the people presenting the danger & knowing more of it actually, are adults there too

Yes we dont know what Lena knew

But yea just a cringe cw scene imo

Supercorp fic rec

Listennn never thought id be serious enough to read fics but lo and behold I am and i am going through gay tragedy (its fine)

And I found this really cute fic its on AO3 one of the first supercorp fics to come up

Kara has to fake marry Lena for some reason

And its so cute and well written and the flow is so natural for what id imagine to happen if they were to do that

Not realizing their feelings until its actively happening

Ill link it in the comments

Whoever the writer is you are a smart woman (I think)

There was a line that stopped me in my tracks and metaphorically smacked me in the face and changed my life view

Because it was the first time the idea of marriage felt comforting and not disturbing in a while to me

Kara says basically she wants to keep knowing Lena always

And maybe this is obvious to u guys but apparently not to me that

-ofc when you're married you're often with your partner but you have freedom to grow too

- and yes ofc we know our family and close friends hopefully always. Like a fact of life like the sun and moon they're always theyre for you and I've always felt that and also known my partner just wouldn't be the same to me as I feel for them lol Sorry bud but

Like Kara just knew..her.. just something you know

And that says it all to me

Ive been getting over a friend in my personal life (gay tragedy lol among other things) and reading everything about supercorp helped me mourn aspects of my friend/ship. Ill always be grateful for the time we had together. I've always known from the moment I met her that I love her and she'd change my life. and she did and I still do. Although its been definitely unnecessarily painful I cant stop loving her as who she is as a person

Ironically reading supercorp fics actually helped me realize what a truly lovely friendship we had especially for two adult women that it was real and whatever other things may have happened well thats personal but

While it may not have worked out irl in this way, i personally ship supercorp for what I think it could be at series end

Made me realize some things I probably needed to hear

Also reading Kara proposing is 👌👌👌

Free Kara-supergirl post s6 is definitely a character id like to see

Watching the series again, good review (spoilers)

My summary:

- everyone's a critic but overall this was a very good show imo. Great sci-fi music costumes lovable characters and HELLO the casting was SPOT ON for the younger versions of themselves even Brainys female version of his clone looked like him

Yes there were standard cheesy cw moments (even if annoyingly political imo) and convuluted plot holes for a fantasy show but if you can take it for what it is, a cw show, I enjoyed watching it

-And ALSO as Melissa said in a podcast, the actors really enjoyed working together enjoyed the project and I think you can FEEL this in the acting AND the overall direction

(As opposed to other shows like charmed marked by cast drama and the k*lling off of main characters, tho i also enjoyed that show)

It felt loved and it was so sweet and honorable to me that Melissa said she always kept it in the back of her mind that she was doing this project for young women & I think you can feel that through the sisterhood and female friendships on the show

Like it was a majorly female cast especially towards the end. that is hard to survive in this day and age and imo they did not pander to men by overly s*xualizing Kara or i think any of the characters. If anything most of the women were very buttoned up

-Now yes there moments I thought were cringily predictable like forcing a romance angle of Kara and her male coworker who is rude to her at work but at least they didnt go through with it

And about romance!

Listen..would i have enjoyed a Kara x Lena storyline of course thatd be cool but just because it didnt did not ruin the show for me

Because imo for many scenes it was "just" a great friendship AND because imo it showed the beauty of friendship is not a "just" or less than romance. Especially as adults we often learn how incredible & valuable friendships are. They are not "less" than romance or blood families. They are a unique important part of life. Kara & Lena had such a beautiful friendship.

Supercorp shippers may have gotten mad at people in the comments saying things like "well would YOU fly around the world to get food for just your bff? Queerbaiting!" But for me, if I could fly, you bet id be flying around to do things for the people i love family AND friends included because I love them so much & we are close

Especially my female friends have gotten me so many specific gifts or done things for me it amazes me how much they know and appreciate me its so special and lovely

HOWEVER..there were scenes where even i was like...wow Lena is really...reacting here in a way I thought might have been romantic , maybe even Kara too

Interestingly MAINLY just in the ..revenge & villain centric scenes. lol. It was like catra kinda

Like her sense of betrayal from supergirl in s5 yea sure ok shes a very emotionally repressed woman i get it

But things like yes ofc buying the company to be close to Kara, plotting and executing this entire revenge the ramifications of which were what, a year, the "i k*lled my brother for you dont you understand!", the crying at the pullitzer scene ...

And heck even the anxiety of Kara when talking to Lena about the "betrayal" and yes even Kara's various reasons for why she didnt tell Lena her identity including protecting her AND not fully trusting her

..all had one thing in common to me: ego & special attention

Typically I think ego does not present itself in common friendships like this. Hurt yes sure.

But seeking revenge on someone that much points to anger that you gave so much of yourself to them, that they misunderstand you, feeling unwanted at the core by someone you really wanted in whatever way & kinda had a codependency on maybe

AND that back and forth. Yes some friendships are rocky but the trusting and NOT trusting someone yet coming back to them again & again ..

Yea im sure may be in friendships but all of it was so angsty & adrenaline fueled these were the times were I was like ohhh ok this would make even more sense..

They are just in a toxic sapphic friendship hiding their attraction lmao

..and the world is at stake

Makes sense.

That literally made more sense to me, personally. HOWEVER even if this was not the case im fine with that too

If it really is like the ladies just love each other as friends and are very powerful anxious women ok

And I know people were mad Kara didnt have a love interest at the end

A)i do think it would have tipped the needle causing too much controversy because listen, folks it was already a predominantly female show with one of the main woman (main characters sister) married to a woman i dont think they were ever in this day and age going to have the main character herself, end up with a woman...and thats just what I think..because I am lesbian, lol

We don't see that stuff on a majority female cast on screen and we hardely ever see multiple queer siblings on screen..itd be like tipping this already progressive CW show into "too much" for some and they wouldn't want to jeapordize their audience..not saying its right just how it was IME. Its like they can only let people imagine we can only exist in quotas. Queer people in particular. & It wasnt marketed as a full queer show or anything so i get it. And they already had nia too. Just viewership. Money.

if u ask me..yea..if I had to choose I do think Lena was the best remaining and storyline set up, viable love interest for Kara by the end

..Just didnt turn out that way

I thought Kara seemed happy in the end so i was happy. and I loved Cat revealing she always knew who she was , Kara revealing herself to the world on her own terms. Beautiful ending.

And if anything i think thatd set up Kara more for maybe one day being with Lena if she accepts being herself more..if so

But I was generally satisfied with their friendship on its own

Back to supercorp, it is interesting how we are taught culturally to assume romance based off certain things. On tv its usually characterized by lingering glances, stare downs, showing that this person's opinion of you means a lot to you, preening, revenge maybe lol, jealousy, hiding things even, yes specially protecting them, tone of voices changing indicating attraction or shared understanding and overall the "whats left unsaid" if not actual touching/being very close physically

Other characters talking about the duo in such a way which I think alex did sometimes

But this varies by person in real life too, and many aspects could be in friendship, especially if secretly repressed

My overall take was supercorp were committed friends who loved each other like family and there were some indications of romantic feelings & romantic suppression BUT none conclusive

Unless i missed the part where they like checked out each other's body parts or said innuendos, felt each other up or asked each other out or did the classic "wow you look...beautiful " or being at a loss of words in the others beauty or something as I dont believe ever happened

Due to this i personally wouldn't say its necessarily queer baiting, its just an outcome many may not have wanted and was despite what could have been probably a more logical & for many more satisfying outcome for Kara's happiness/growth if with Lena

But hey 6 seasons of a super woman show is impressive especially in this day and age

Thank you Melissa and everyone for the heart you put in this show

ALSO let's not forget Melissa was going through domestic v**lence at the start & the divorce yet STILL delivered an incredible show !!

I have a feeling that the friendships she says built from that show may have helped her through struggles & im glad she was maybe able to see herself as the remarkable woman she is in this role

That kind of pressure for a celebrity few can probably relate to but she handled it with grace and gave a very beautiful feminist series at a difficult time in the world
