I have had issues two years in a row now with the rear drainage system behind the back window. The result is water pooling behind my drivers seat which as you can imagine is a nightmare to clean up. I have watched every YouTube video on this, I have read every forum post and post on r/Miata about this topic. I have tried a snake, I have tried deassembling my interior and accessing the lower hose, I have tried a trombone cleaner. I do not own a garage and while I don't park directly under trees there is a large evergreen by my neighbors house that in the fall winter and early spring the needles make their way into my cars drains. I have had it professionally cleared out at the dealership twice now.

My question I would like to pose to the community is this; has anyone come up with a way to stop crap from making it into the lower layers of this system?

I'm thinking of getting some fine plastic mesh and sliding it in behind the entry holes in the seal behind the window. I have also considered getting it glued on top of the hole in the basin behind the seat itself because getting a vac hose into that basin is more doable than hoping my trombone cleaner gets the blockage cleared deep in the tubing.

I still don't understand why this system even exists, water doesn't exactly pool along that window if those drains are blocked off entirely as I tested that with silicon ear plugs when I needed to wash it before I could get it to the dealership to be cleaned out.

Any insight you guys have would be appreciated. This is the only thing on this car I can't stand.
