I recently purchased the KVP 10oz buffer to replace my 6-7ish oz buffer. It’s too long for the bolt to lock back. (I expected this somewhat. KVP lists the buffer as 4.125 inches long) I sanded down the bumper to get just a hair under 4 inches. However I did not know about buffer spacers/plugs. Little black piece next to my old buffer. (The AR9 teaches me more every day)
When removed, the KVP 10oz has enough clearance for my bolt lock to be engaged. With the buffer plug in place, I still can’t get the bolt to lock back.
Question, just how important is this piece? Can I run my extended KVP buffer without that piece? Will I damage my buffer tube by not having that in there? Should I pop in a couple of quarters in its place?
It’s a standard carbine buffer tube using a standard AR 15 spring. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
