Would a short separation prepare a kitten for a long one?

We have two cats, Coraline (10y) and Binx (6m). We're going on a two-week vacation next month and it will be impossible to bring them with us. We're not worried about Coraline at all; there's a pet sitting service we've used before that we like, and she'll be lonely but she'll manage. Binx has never been alone for longer than a workday.

We're visiting my parents out of state this weekend (leaving after work Friday, coming back early Sunday afternoon) and we've always left Coraline alone for those trips with no problem (they happen every month or two). The last few times, we've either taken Binx with us or had my husband stay home with him, but we're debating leaving him this time so his first experience with being separated from us isn't two weeks long. Thoughts?
