Celebrating a win of steady weight gain

We had our 4mo checkup and the pediatrician said baby is gaining weight great!

I am so happy because he has never been a chunky baby. He’s rocking in the 40th percentile for weight but 94th for height. Some family members have seemed skeptical of my milk being “enough” for him. I’ve been told he needs cereal or extra food to actually feel full. His doctor denied all this and said he’s doing great and I can keep giving him milk until 6mo when he can start solids!

My mom never breastfed and my MIL supplemented her boys with formula. So I have been surrounded by opinions from non-EBF experiences. I was worried about “not making enough” going into bf’ing. I pump 4 times while I’m at work to keep supply up. It has been so much work and I feel so fortunate I’m able to feed my baby.

Anyways, just needed to shout into the void my celebration!

My MIL is coming to visit at the end of May and we are happy to have her see our LO! She lives out of state so she is not around every week like my mom or my FIL.

She is an … opinionated… woman. We’ve had our struggles in the past but we keep visits pleasant!

She breastfed her two boys so she has an opinion on how it should be done. She’s a big fan of pacifiers and gave our son one when he was just a few days old without my consent because she felt he “was eating and latching too much” and he needed to just comfort suck and give me a break.

She also wanted to feed him bottles once a day while he was a week old. (I was a pushover because of pressure, exhaustion, FTM not feeling confident, nipple pain, etc)

I feel really fortunate that didn’t mess up my son’s ability to nurse, but I shudder in retrospect at the thought it could’ve caused issues.

Anyways, I tend to let my son nap latched. He immediately wakes up if I unlatch him if he has fed to sleep. It makes everyone unhappy and he doesn’t get a good nap. He nurses to sleep and naturally unlatches himself overnight but it takes some time for that to happen.

Last time my MIL visited, she shamed me for letting him nap this way. Commented that he ate too much and I couldn’t sustain this behavior. I just played it off like maybe he was cluster feeding but idk what to do for her next visit!

ETA: my baby is now almost 4months and happily in daycare through the week. No issues taking bottles or paci while at daycare! He just really really wants only the boob with me
