Dieback after leafing out

I'm seeing dieback on a few of these bigger branches on my Japanese maple. There are some webs on these dead branches. Not sure if dieback is because of bugs, or other disease. This tree lived in a small pot for at least a decade. I transplanted it to the garden last fall. It's in a garden bed where I also have astilbe and hostas, which require good moisture. I love this tree and I haven't been able to figure out its cultivar name so I wouldn't be able to replace it.
