Transplanting this Japanese Maple

My friend is doing construction and this beautiful Japenese Maple has to go. I was thinking about taking it for my yard. Is it feasible (and worth it) to transplant this into my yard? It’s fully mature, about 10’ wide, has been left untended for a while.

Long Island NY.

Rescue mission - Acer palmatum Ryusen (SQUAT STAKED)

I visited my local nursery and noticed a couple of semi-abandoned Japanese maple trees tucked away in a corner. Out of curiosity, I asked about them and was offered both for $25 each. One is labeled #10 and the other #5, which I believe refers to the container size.

The trees have a mix of healthy green foliage and some browning. The #5 container felt extremely light, which made me suspect it hadn’t been taking up water properly. I placed both pots in a tub of water to rehydrate them. The #10 pot absorbed water quickly, and water soon emerged from the surface. The #5 took much longer; I had to gently poke the soil surface before water finally began to penetrate and rise to the top.

I’m hoping to give these trees a successful rescue. Besides deep rehydration, what additional steps would you recommend to help them recover and thrive? Thanks!

Help! Potential over water or just autumn?

Please help! We purchased our first home around 6 months ago and the old owners were very into gardening and we are very much not (but would love to be!). From what we can tell, This is a Japanese maple, but that's as far as our knowledge really goes. We are concerned that we've potentially over watered it but I am also just hoping that this is what it looks like in autumn?? We desperately dont want to kill it, please help! The last photo is what it looked like a few months ago (sorry I dont have a better photo)

Planting on a Mound?

Hello. I planted this Hot Blond Japanese Maple on a mound. I used soil conditioner, a little bit of manure and compost, and mixed it in with my native clay soil.
I also placed a 50% shade cover over the maple in my zone 8Georgia area.
Let me know if anyone has any better recommendations so this little baby grows up well!

Does this look like a katsura for you?

I just bought this one which labeled as Katsura but my other Katsura doesn't have red stems like this. I thought only sango kaku has red stems.

Tall maple

Hi guys,

I ordered a Japanese maple through home depot a few months back and it got delivered today.

When it said it was in a 2 gal pot I figured it would be on the smaller side but it arrived and its really tall (5ft) and thin with almost no lower branches.

My questions are

  1. How do I protect it from cold winter winds?

  2. Any chance of it getting lower branch growth or is that not going to happen now?

Another first time owner question. Why do half my leaves look rough but other half vibrant?

As per title half my leaves on one side look rough but other half look very healthy to me. First time JM owner and yall last helped me due to sun scalding issues so I ended up cutting that limb off and then tree took off in good way with new growth. Concerned about leaves and if underlying issue of some kind?

Pastel Japanese maple

I love pastel. It’s very pale pink/amber when it first leafs out. Mine quickly turns pale green with beautiful reticulation.

If you live in wa state near Covington you can have my JM tree babies that go naturally in my yard.

I already have too many Japanese maples and these grow wild in my yard. Free, just bring your own bucket. PM me if interested

What’s up with my Tamukeyama?

Any ideas why my Tamukeyama appears unwell? It’s been happy in this spot for a few years. We had a reasonably rainy April/May and I noticed some of these leaves starting to curl a few days ago. US NE (Pennsylvania).

Root Flare - Girdling Advice

I've removed the overburdened bark.

Now I'm not sure if this is the root flare or just advenfageous roots that have started to girdle.

Is it possible these roots are just advantageous and not the root flare?

Should I remove more? There was one very clearly girdling that I cut.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Coral Bark Help!!!

A couple of years ago my girlfriend got me this tree. It did well but last winter I fear was brutal. I'd very, very much like to save it if it's at all possible given the tree is special to me. The top appears dead but new growth is coming up! What to do? I'm in zone 6a.
