Laparoscopic hysterectomy while overweight
Hi! So I met with a surgeon today to discuss a laparoscopic hysterectomy, however, she mentioned that due to my weight I am a very high risk case (255lbs and 5’2) and that I need to understand the risk because they could have devastating results and because I have two young children, I really need to take that into consideration because she wouldn’t want me to leave them behind.
I have a few medical problems, which is what led to my OB sending me to this doctor, and the doctor did say that she wouldn’t offer the surgery if she felt she couldn’t do it, but she just needed me to understand the risks. She also mentioned that I carry a lot of the weight in my stomach and she would’ve rather I carried it in my legs and arms instead so that’s also why it’s such a high risk as well. She also said she would like me to try and lose at least 30 pounds before my surgery and suggested I try Wegovy.
So I guess I’m just looking to see what other overweight women experiences are with laparoscopic hysterectomy because this meeting kind of scared me and now I’m not sure and the only stories I hear are from women who were not considered high risk since they were not overweight.
But I have nine months to decide before going forward with it.
Thank you!! 😊
