Internship Suggestions for an Undergraduate Student

Hi everyone,

I’m a rising sophomore triple-majoring in Neuroscience, Psychology, and Biology, and I am interested in both patent prosecution and IP litigation (although I seem to be leaning more towards IP litigation).

Right now, I work as an undergraduate researcher in a botany lab and am on track to be published in a peer-reviewed journal within the next few months. However, looking ahead to the next internship cycle, I’m feeling a bit stuck. Almost every IP/patent litigation internship I find online explicitly targets 1L or 2L law students, not undergrads.

For someone trying to go into IP law, do law schools prefer to see heavy scientific research and publications over generic undergraduate law internships? Additionally, does anyone have recommendations on next steps for my internship search? Thank you!
