Had some rot on my graft, need some advice on how to handle it

Hi, I have a peyote grafted to a San Pedro. I today that noticed part of it seemed to have rot on it. I bought this a few weeks ago, and the button (shown in picture 1) was brown but had been hard the entire time I’ve had it. The soil finally dried so today I watered it for the first time, but after watering I noticed that the same brown button was now mushy (picture 2). I don’t know how I missed it as I often check on it, but it was. I used a sterile knife to sever the button, and put some sulfur powder on a Q-tip and padded it over the severed area (picture 3). Pics 4-6 are of the cactus currently. I’m very attached to this guy, and found that the rot made me panic to the degree of tearing up. I’m new to this and am really worried about the potential of more rot. I let it sit under a spider farmer grow light for 8 1/2 hours a day at 40% intensity. Anything else I can do? The cactus isn’t soft but it I wouldn’t say it’s hard. This is my first peyote so I don’t know how hard they’re supposed to be which is making me paranoid. There’s these 2 brown spots on the biggest button. Should I be concerned about that? That brown doesn’t seem any squishier than the rest of the button. Was told it could just be a scar or something. Would love guidance from those more experienced, thanks if you read all that! Appreciate it!

Hi, long time lurker on this sub! This weekend I was lucky enough to acquire this beauty, a Peyote Grafted to a San Pedro! The lovely gentleman I bought it from only had this one, and I can’t help but feel that it chose me. All that being said, I’ve only been seriously into plants for a few months now, and have never even owned a cactus. I’d like some help from some more experienced growers. I’m keeping this in an indoor apartment, so I was looking for suggestions on a grow light! I was told to try and mimic the Texas Thornscrub environment as closely as possible. I was also told to make sure the top 3 inches were dry before watering, and to water in the summer and not the winter. It was also suggested that I may want to prune the arm without the Peyote, as it would compete for resources. I wanted to ask, is it seriously taking a ton from the peyote in a way that’s harmful to it, or is it more like the peyote just grows a bit slower? If I prune, I was told to try to do it as close to the growth point as possible, and to use sulfur. Is there special cactus sulfur like a spray or something I should buy? Any recommendations on the sulfur would also be much appreciated! Lastly, certain bits of the cactus seem to be brown (see last photo) in a way that makes it almost look like it rotted or something. Should I be worried about that? If so how should I proceed to handle that, and what’s going on there? Any and all advice would be appreciated! I feel insanely blessed to to have come across this and want to care for it the best I possibly can, thanks :)
