So a bit of context. I grew up using an old echo 500VL (about as old as I am) and I have a lot of hours on that thing for a non professional. We cleared out the old farms before they got sold, and I spent my childhood clearing an untouched lot my grandparents bought to build a new home on. And many other projects (storms/firewood etc.) But it's time I buy my own setup and stop using the families ancient and venerable beast.
I'm looking to get one saw to do everything, felling/bucking/limbing, for clearing land, firewood, cleaning up after storms etc. Whatever I need it do. I don't really foresee needing more than a 20" bar (which is also what i'm used to).
I see a lot of recommendations for the Echo CS-590 or Husky 555's etc. but that's a big price jump. I just want something simple that's just going to run every time I reach for it without too much extra junk to break and make the saw not run. Also needs to be similar or more powerful than the 50cc 3.0-3.5 hp saw I'm used to. And if something does breaks, I don't want to have to sacrifice my first born to obtain parts. Or need to go to some mystic emporium on the 3rd Tuesday of the new moon.
Your help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
EDIT:
Ok not sure how I missed this one during my current research. 550xp mk2 looks like another good option 4 hp way lighter than the 555. that thing going to still be able to handle felling 28" trees? Looks like it might be a little bit nicer for limbing and if I need to get up on a ladder for storm downed trees.
