Such a great weekend with some amazing people and many chainsaws.
I'm deep cleaning an old Poulan 50th anniversary edition 2175. It was my dad's chainsaw and I'm not really planning on using it for much, I have another saw, I just want to sort of "restore" it and become more familiar with the inner working of a 2 stroke. What cleaner/methods do you think would work best to get a saw that likely has never really been cleaned before near-factory clean. Many thanks to everyone who can answer!
Hi
I have a old 038 that is a beast of a saw but fine dust gets around the seal of the air filter into carb and I need to prevent that
Does anyone add a extra paper gasket or have any other tricks?
Also what's peoples favorite style of air filter for a saw like this?
Picked up this ms390 for $25. New fuel and she rips.
I was wondering what you all thought of this old girl. It ran pretty well over the winter but since it warmed up it's lost compression and doesn't sound happy while running. Any advice or potential diagnosis would be appreciated
Unknown chainsaw

Hey all,
I have kind of a dumb question I guess you could say. I completely refurbished two different saws. Everything is new on both. I bought some Amsoil Saber synthetic blend which says 50:1 ratio. I mixed it 40:1 just for peace of mind because these saws are vintage and call for 40:1.
However, both saws are smoking pretty badly. My question is, when the oil says 50:1 does that mean I can only mix it 50:1 or else the fuel will have too much oil in it? Or is whether the saws smoke or not just based off of the AMOUNT of oil I put in the mix and not the ratio that the label says on the bottle?
Thanks
I have been borrowing a friend's saw for odd jobs around my house. He has a basic Husky 120 and I'm getting over the borrowing phase now that I am using it semi regularly.
I do maintenance on my trees once a year to keep things under control. I have had to deal with the odd fallen tree and also need to fell a few trees at my parents house.
Stihl and Husky have large presence in my country. Echo is very rare and as such maintenance parts aren't readily available.
I have been eying out 3 saws:
Stihl ms250 for the price
Husky 450 mark II seems more refined but ~30% more
Stihl 260 but 15% more than the Husky
I have read the the Husky is easier to start and more modern especially with Anti vibration etc. but the 260 being more professional has better build and more of a serious saw.
I can't ignore the price of the 250.
(We don't get the 251&261, we don't get the Husky 455)
What would you do?
hello experts how would y’all fall this “fallen” sheoak tree? advice welcome!
First time poster. Appreciate the help and any “you’re a dumbass” responses.
Recently took down 8 big hardwoods. 30+ diameter. The guy helping me, and myself burned through 4 chains on one tree. The saws will cut perfectly and then poof the chain is damaged. The wear seems to only be on one side of the cutters, and it’s on the leading edge. The bars have been getting hot too. I don’t see any visible foreign material in the wood. From trunk to limb it’s been jacking up chains.
Now a good portion of this tree was dead, so I’m wondering if the bark is just so dirty it’s reducing lubrication and damaging the bar? I replaced the bar on the ms312 along with a new chain and it cut just fine on the other trees.
This same tree in particular, is also constantly getting material underneath the rakers and into the bar groove. I don’t mean just junk, like shaving that will push the chain out.
I can provide pics if need be to help, just wondering if anybody has run into this before.

FB Marketplace pick-up for $50. Just needed the cracked primer bulb replaced. 51cc, 20" bar. Not bad for around the house jobs. I'll be putting a better chain on it soon enough. (SOLO 651SP)
Afternoon, Wondering if anyone has experience of the Stihl 190t. Ive used the 161 and wasn’t impressed, haven’t used the 220. Also used the electric Husky models and while good the batteries are a little dodgy. Looking at the 190 and curious. Cheers

First new gas saw in nearly 20 years and I have seen bits about the autotune breaking in differently. Husky's info is almost non-existent.
Advice I've seen on breaking this saw in seems to run from wrap in a blankie and coddle it for a year, to start it right up and go after the biggest tree i can find.
How would you break this in?
Is a free saw. The customer said he was given this years ago, never used it and will never use it. He asked me if I wanted it. Well yes!!!!
I lent my Husqvarna 372XP chainsaw to a friend, and he managed to drive over it with a skid steer.
It was probably 15 years old, so I'm not going to shed a tear. Never gave me a problem.
What's a good equivalent replacement?
The thing started right up when I added gas. Then the problems started. The gas line split, so I replaced it. Then the pull cord broke, so I replaced that.
New bar and chain and after about 30 minutes I got the thing running again.
The bar was really worn down, and I had a bar that fit, so I figured why not. I got the bar and chain really cheap because it was on clearance.
The saw is loud, and when I pull the throttle it revs up nice and quick, and I feel the torque. The saw starts really easily and sounds like it will cut great.
All in all I paid maybe $35 and now I've got a nice little saw. Now I've gotta find some wood to cut.
