How bad of an idea is it to play with a respirator?
So I'm working on a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Monolith kit, and I'm at a bit of an impasse for face gear. I insist on wearing some kind of face/mouth protection, and want to do something thematic if possible. I wear glasses, so full-fledge gas masks are completely out of the question for that reason on top of the existing litany of other reasons.
As a compromise, I've been considering the idea of using a respirator instead, probably like the one pictured. I'd probably gut the filters and cut & fit some mesh over the openings, just to retain the form and structure without hindering my breathing so much, and I wouldn't be against punching discreet holes in the seals (such as in the underside, and/or behind the filters) either. The main concerns I have are mass, shape, and structural integrity of a mask like this.
Does anyone have any experience with using one of these as face protection? How well can a respirator withstand an impact at typical UK joule limits (1.14J for automatics, up to 2.5J for snipers)?
TIA!
