Hey y’all, I’m not sure if this is something I’ve missed, misinterpreted, or just plain got the wrong information about, but has anyone else gotten told recently that they have to physically give Walgreens their prescription from their doctor for them to fill it?

I’ve been going to the same psychiatrist for over a year now and I’ve been on the same meds for about half a year (generic Vyvanse). In that half year, I’ve been going to Walgreens, and while they’ve tossed sudden new requirements at me before, this one confuses me.

I called (because they told me I have to call to fill my meds) and this time they asked a few more questions, mainly “is this a refill or new prescription?” Since my doc writes out new prescriptions for the three months I don’t see him, I said “new”. After a bit of typing they say “what medication is it for?” I say the full name and then get told “you have to send an electronic request or present the prescription in store to fill it, you can’t do it over the phone”

Huh? I didn’t want to hold up the phone line so I said I’d ask my doctor but now I realize I don’t even know what to ask. They’ve been sending electronic prescriptions this whole time without issue and I’m a telehealth patient so I don’t know what could’ve changed. I decided to check Walgreens’ policy itself and there it says that controlled substances can ONLY be filled after receiving a physical prescription.

Did I miss something? Is this new or has this been in place the whole time and I just somehow have been getting by doing it wrong? Did anyone else encounter this? I’m certainly going to bring it up to my psychiatrist’s office but I’m curious about your guys’ experience with this.
