Looking for suggestions to fill gap in ceiling between drywall and beam and blend wall

Previously there were cabinets here. We are planning on selling and are looking to make this look better than what it is. I have no drywall experience.

Can I just use a compound to blend the low spots that the cabinets were covering into the high spots on the wall and ceiling?

For the gap between drywall and beam I'm not sure either. I was thinking of maybe getting quarter round trim to cover but looking for the best and or easiest solution.
