My kids pc is a hodge podge of my old parts and a cheap case that was being sold for parts with mobo, cpu and ram included.

The original ram was 1 stick of 8GB 3200mhz, but some of the games she wants to play require 16GB. So I dug out my set of 8GB x2 2400mhz.

Of course it’s our luck that the mobo has no XMP options, so I used the Ryzen Master software to make sure the ram would run at its listed 2400mhz.

Our main concern is how well the slower speed ram will work with new games like Forza Horizon 6. I’ll post the full build down below, any help would be appreciated.

Note: I know the easy solution is to buy a matching stick of 3200mhz to go with what it came with. But money is a bit tight, so that’s a goal for future us.

Mobo: HP AM4 platform
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G
GPU: RTX 1660 Super 6GB
Ram: 8GB x2 2400mhz
PSU: Generic 650w

I need to add more storage to my daughter’s PC, I have an extra 1TB m.2 but her mobo only has 1 m.2 slot. I ordered a pcie expansion card for the open 1x slot, what I didn’t realize is how much that 1x slot would dampen the m.2’s data speeds.

I have no problem installing a fresh copy of windows on the new drive. I’m just wondering if that’s my only option since the mobo is slot limited. My other concern is the new install not having the HP recovery partition (I know I can make a Microsoft tools version, but having it built in is nice too)

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Update: I have decided to not use the pcie x1 adaptor for the m.2 drive. I am seeing to many reviews and situations where that kind of application harms the mobo or causes more issues.

I think my best bet is to salvage a 2.5 ssd from one of my unused laptops and go the sata route for now.
