I don't know how I feel about the Stanford D3 Fan Project (Korean Flag during Body to Body)

I am Korean American. I am so proud of BTS and what they have done for Korean people around the world. I love how they included Arirang in Body to Body; I get chills seeing stadiums sing the song, especially in Japan. I think all people can relate with that song.
I felt kind of strange seeing the audience hold up Korean flags during the song today though. I understand the sentiment... BTS are Korean and are so proud Korean. They always remember their roots. But what is the point of this project exactly exactly? For BTS to see that and be proud? I just want to understand better.
International ARMY can sometimes romanticize Korea and don't really know much about actual life and politics there. So waving around the flag seems kind of like blindly doing so just because they love BTS. If the purpose is for BTS to be proud of their roots, then okay. But I do think fans tend to romanticize Korea. "I love Korea!" "I'm going to Korea to find an oppa!" I've heard several ARMY say this to me.
It's not the same, but it would be so cringe if Taylor Swift sang America the Beautiful in Korea and people were waving around the American flag. The difference is white people are colonizers and shouldn't be proud of that whereas Korea was colonized. They resisted and carried out, working their way to where they are today. But I wonder how many people in the audience actually know all about Korean history and the people and just blindly waving the flag because they love BTS.
BTS liked it and were happy and I suppose that's all that matters.
Maybe I'm over thinking. Please don't hate, just having these thoughts. It can be complicated being ARMY as a Korean person.
